Roy Moore (Australian Footballer)
Roy Moore (22 December 1914 – 4 June 1973) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1930s. His father Herbert Moore played a game for South Melbourne in their premiership year of 1909. Moore, a forward who liked the torpedo punt, came to South Melbourne from the Sandhurst Football Club in Bendigo. He kicked 52 goals in his debut VFL season. Two of those came in South Melbourne's losing 1935 VFL Grand Final team, where he replaced the injured Bob Pratt at full-forward, and he also kicked two goals in another losing Grand Final the following season. Late in the 1937 season, against Fitzroy at Lake Oval, Moore bagged a career-best nine goals despite the entire South Melbourne team managing just ten in the entire game; as of 2022, this remains a joint league record for the highest percentage of a team's goals in a single match (with a minimum qualifying total of least 8 goals); only Collingwood's D ... Sandhurst Football Club
The Sandhurst Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Dragons'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in Bendigo, Victoria (Australia), Victoria. Sandhurst is the former name of that city. The club teams currently compete in the Bendigo Football League, Bendigo Football Netball League. The football team is the second most-winning team of the BFL, with 27 premierships. History Sandhurst, who were then known as the Maroons, were one of the league's foundation clubs in 1880. They had been formed in June 1861, by Melbourne Football Club rulemaker J. B. Thompson. The club did not play in the BFL from 1901 to 1914, but returned to the league after the war in 1919, and have appeared in every season since. Fitzroy Football Club
The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897. Fitzroy won a total of eight VFL premierships, of which seven (1898, 1899, 1904, 1905, 1913, 1916 and 1922) were won whilst they were nicknamed the Maroons and one (1944) as the Gorillas. The decision of the club to change its nickname to the Lions in 1957 coincided with what history now records as the beginning of decades of poor on-field performance and financial losses that eventually resulted in the club being placed into administration, ultimately leaving the AFL at the end of the 1996 season. The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football league in Australia serving as one of the second-tier regional semi-professional competitions which sit underneath the fully professional Australian Football League (AFL). It includes teams from clubs based in the eastern states of Australia: Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, and includes reserves teams for the east coast AFL clubs. The league evolved from the former Victorian Football Association (VFA), and it has been known by its current name since 1996. The 1938 VFL season was the 42nd season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 23 April until 24 September, and comprised an 18-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. Dick Lee (Australian Footballer)
Walter Henry "Dick" Lee (19 March 1889 – 11 September 1968) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club in the (then) Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of long-term Collingwood trainer Walter Henry Lee (1863–1952), and Isabella Lee (1867–1929), née Turnbull, Walter Henry Lee was born in Collingwood on 19 March 1889. He married Zella Dixon in 1927. Football Lee was one of the first great forwards in Australian Football with an ability to win the ball on the ground or in the air. He was considered one of the finest practitioners of the place kick in the game, a reputation which followed long after the skill disappeared from the game. Lakeside Stadium is an Australian sports arena in the South Melbourne suburb of Albert Park. The Sydney Swans are a professional Australian rules football club based in Sydney, New South Wales.
