Roy Loney
Roy Loney (April 13, 1946 – December 13, 2019) was an American rock musician, best known as the original lead singer of the Flamin' Groovies. The Groovies original line-up issued releases on Epic Records and Kama Sutra Records, which ''Rolling Stone'' magazine described as an "influence on power-pop and punk …" Loney's albums with the Flamin' Groovies included ''Sneakers'' (EP), '' Supersnazz'', ''Flamingo'', and '' Teenage Head''.''Billboard'' magazine contrasted their "gritty" sound to the "flower power" approach of their San Francisco contemporaries. "With a Girl Like You" is a song by English rock band the Troggs, released as a single in July 1966. On the back of the success of " Wild Thing", "With a Girl Like You" topped the charts in the UK, and was similarly a success across Europe, but did not fare as well in the US, only peaking at number 29 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Background and release "With a Girl Like You" was written by the Troggs' lead vocalist Reg Presley whilst he was a bricklayer. He took inspiration from the vocals in "Barbara Ann", which became a hit for the Beach Boys in early 1966. "With a Girl Like You" was recorded at Olympic Studios at the same time as their previous single "Wild Thing". Both songs were recorded in two takes as they only had a short amount of recording time, as manager Larry Page got them into the studio at the end of a session for his orchestra. The Squirrels
The Squirrels are a novelty pop band based in Seattle, Washington. Founded in 1984 by lead vocalist Rob Morgan (founder, as well, of the ''Poplust'' zine), the band went through numerous lineups, but has stuck to the aesthetic that Peter Blecha describes as "cross-pollinat ngbubblegum sensibilities with punk attitudes." Although most of the Squirrels material has been, technically speaking, cover versions, they are by no means a typical cover band. ABC Records
ABC Records was an American record label founded in New York City in 1955. It originated as the main popular music label operated by the Am-Par Record Corporation. Flower Power
Flower power was a slogan used during the late 1960s and early 1970s as a symbol of passive resistance and nonviolence. It is rooted in the opposition movement to the Vietnam War. The expression was coined by the American Beat poet Allen Ginsberg in 1965 as a means to transform war protests into peaceful affirmative spectacles. Hippies embraced the symbolism by dressing in clothing with embroidered flowers and vibrant colors, wearing flowers in their hair, and distributing flowers to the public, becoming known as flower children. ''Teenage Head'' is the third studio album by the San Francisco Rock music, rock band Flamin' Groovies, released in March 1971 by Kama Sutra Records. ''Teenage Head'' was recorded on a Multitrack recording, 16-track machine at Bell Sound Studios in New York City. It is listed in the 2006 book ''1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die''. Mick Jagger compared the album favorably to the Rolling Stones' contemporaneous ''Sticky Fingers''.
