Roy Hord Jr.
Ambrose Roy Hord Jr. (December 25, 1934October 24, 2002) was a professional American football offensive lineman who played in the National Football League (NFL) and the American Football League (AFL). Early years Hord was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and attended the local Harding High School. He played college football at Duke University where he was a defensive end and an offensive guard. He was named first-team All-American in 1957 and was inducted into Duke's Hall of Fame in 2005. Professional career Hord was an 8th round selection (88th overall pick) of the 1957 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. Before he joins the Rams, Hord served for two years (1958–1959) in the United States Army, training at Bitburg Air Force Base in Germany. He joined the Rams in 1960 and played with them through the beginning of the 1962 season when he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. Guard (American Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. The guard's job is to protect the quarterback from the incoming linemen during pass plays, as well as creating openings (holes) for the running backs to head through. Guards are automatically considered ineligible receivers, so they cannot intentionally touch a forward pass, unless it is to recover a fumble or is first touched by a defender or eligible receiver. The 1957 National Football League draft had its first four rounds held on November 26, 1956, at the Warwick Hotel in Philadelphia and its final twenty-six rounds on January 31, 1957 at the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel also in Philadelphia. This was the 11th year that the first overall pick was a bonus pick determined by lottery. With the previous ten winners ineligible from the draw, only the Chicago Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers had an equal chance of winning. Les Richter
Leslie Alan Richter (October 6, 1930 – June 12, 2010) was an American football linebacker who played for the Los Angeles Rams of National Football League (NFL). He also served as the head of operations for NASCAR and president of the Riverside International Raceway. Richter was twice a consensus All-American for the California Golden Bears football team of the University of California. With the Rams, he played in eight Pro Bowls. He was inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1982 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011. Riverside International Raceway
Riverside International Raceway (sometimes known as Riverside, RIR, or Riverside Raceway) was a motorsports race track and road course established in the Edgemont area of Riverside County, California, just east of the city limits of Riverside and east of Los Angeles, in 1957. In 1984, the raceway became part of the newly incorporated city of Moreno Valley. Riverside was noted for its hot, dusty environment and for being somewhat of a complicated and dangerous track for drivers. It was also considered one of the finest tracks in the United States. The track was in operation from September 22, 1957, to July 2, 1989, with the last race, The Budweiser 400, won by Rusty Wallace, held in 1988.
