The men's double sculls competition at the 1952 Summer Olympics took place at Meilahti, Finland Finland ( fi, Suomi ; sv, Finland ), officially the Republic of Finland (; ), is a Nordic country in Northern Europe. Heats First two rowers advanced directly to semi-finals. The others must compete in the repechage for remaining spots in the semi-finals. Meilahti
Meilahti (in Swedish Mejlans) is a neighbourhood of Helsinki between Mannerheimintie (the main entrance road to Helsinki) and a bay named Seurasaarenselkä. Most of the houses in Meilahti were built in the 1930s and 1940s. Meilahti is home to over 6700 people. Meilahti is the location of Mäntyniemi, official residence of the President of Finland, as well as Kesäranta, the official residence of Prime Minister of Finland. Near Mäntyniemi is the former presidential residence, Tamminiemi, which is today a museum dedicated to president Urho Kekkonen. Ebbe Vestermann Parsner (6 June 1922 – 24 October 2013) was a Danish rower who specialized in the double scull event. Derek Riley
John Derek Riley (July 1, 1922 – May 6, 2018) was a Canadian rower who competed in the 1952 Summer Olympics. Riley was inducted in the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in 2009 and appointed the Order of Canada in 2014. Early life and education Riley was born on July 1, 1922, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with degrees in commerce and accounting. Career Riley began his career as a member of the Royal Canadian Navy in World War II. After starting rowing in the Winnipeg Rowing Club in 1946, Riley competed in rowing competitions for the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta and Northwest International Rowing Association. In RCH competitions, Riley won a juniors competition in 1946 and a seniors competition with Theo Dubois in 1947. Alternatively, Riley won over thirty medals in the NWIRA including a seniors event with Bob Richards in 1948 and every medal competition in 1961. His final NWIRA event was in 1963. Bernard Patrick "Pat" Costello Jr. (March 12, 1929 – July 12, 2014) was an American rower who competed in the 1952 Summer Olympics and in the 1956 Summer Olympics. He was born in Detroit, Michigan.
