Rowing At The 1928 Summer Olympics – Men's Single Sculls
The men's single sculls event was part of the rowing programme at the 1928 Summer Olympics. It was one of seven rowing events for men and was the seventh appearance of the event, which had been on the programme for every Games since rowing was added in 1900. There were 15 competitors, each from a different nation (as each nation could enter only one boat in the event). The event was won by Bobby Pearce of Australia, the nation's first medal in the event. Silver went to Ken Myers of the United States, extending that nation's podium streak to three Games (and making the nation four-for-four in reaching the podium each time it appeared). David Collet of Great Britain took bronze; that nation had also earned a medal each time it appeared (six times) and had a five-Games podium streak. Sloten, Amsterdam
Sloten (; ) is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. Walter Flinsch
Walter Flinsch (7 February 1903 – 3 February 1943) was a German rower who competed in the 1928 Summer Olympics and in the 1932 Summer Olympics. In 1928 he was eliminated in the first repechage round of the single sculls event. Four years later he won the silver medal as member of the German boat in the coxless fours competition. Josef Straka (14 July 1904 – 29 June 1976) was a Czechoslovak rower who won one silver and three bronze medals at the European championships of 1925–1932. Béla Szendey
Béla Szendey (5 October 1902 – 29 October 1966) was a Hungarian rower. Szendey was born in Budapest in 1902. He competed at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris with Ervin Mórich in the men's double sculls where they were eliminated in round one. He competed in single sculls and won silver medals at the 1926 European Rowing Championships in Lucerne and at the 1927 European Rowing Championships in Como. At the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, he was eliminated in the round two repêchage by David Collet from Great Britain in the single sculls event. Szendey won gold at the 1930 European Rowing Championships in Liège in the single sculls.
