Row River
The Row River is a river, approximately long, in Lane County, Oregon, United States. It rises in the Cascade Range and flows into the Coast Fork Willamette River near Cottage Grove. The stream was originally known as the "East Fork Coast Fork", but was later renamed after a dispute (row) between neighbors and brothers-in-law George Clark and Joseph Southwell over "trespassing" livestock. Clark was killed as a result of the row. The name rhymes with "cow" rather than with "slow". A post office named Row River operated from 1911 to 1914 a little north of the present site of Dorena at . River Mile
A river mile is a measure of distance in miles along a river from its mouth. River mile numbers begin at zero and increase further upstream. The corresponding metric unit using kilometers is the river kilometer. They are analogous to vehicle roadway mile markers, except that river miles are rarely marked on the physical river; instead they are marked on navigation charts, and topographic maps. Riverfront properties are sometimes partially legally described by their river mile. The river mile is not the same as the length of the river, rather it is a means of locating any feature along the river relative to its distance from the mouth, when measured along the course (or navigable channel) of the river. Interstate 5 (I-5) is the main north–south Interstate Highway on the West Coast of the United States, running largely parallel to the Pacific coast of the contiguous U.S. from Mexico to Canada. Mosby Creek (Oregon)
Mosby Creek is a tributary of the Row River in Lane County, in the U.S. state of Oregon. It begins at the confluence of the east and west forks of the creek near the Calapooia Divide and the border with Douglas County. From its source it flows generally north-northwest to meet the river slightly east of Cottage Grove and about from the larger stream's confluence with the Coast Fork Willamette River. The map includes mile markers along the creek. Mosby Creek was named for David Mosby, an early settler. He lived near the mouth of the stream, once known as ''Brumbaugh Creek''. Mosby Creek Covered Bridge, long, carries Layng Road over the creek east of Cottage Grove. Built in 1920, it is the oldest covered bridge in Lane County. Dorena Dam
Dorena Reservoir (also Dorena Lake) is a reservoir on the Row River in Lane County, Oregon, United States. It is located east of Cottage Grove. The Dorena Dam in front of the reservoir was completed in 1949 as one of the 13 dams of the United States Army Corps of Engineers in the Willamette River's basin. Set at the south end of the Willamette Valley and criss-crossed by the Coast Fork Willamette River and its tributary the Row River, the area was susceptible to periodic flooding from large rains and snow melts in the surrounding mountains prior to the construction of the dam. In the 1940s the United States Army Corps of Engineers began construction of dams which created Cottage Grove Lake and Dorena Lake. Dorena Lake is a popular summer vacation destination. A stream gauge, streamgage or stream gauging station is a location used by hydrologists or environmental scientists to monitor and test terrestrial bodies of water. Sharps Creek (Oregon)
Sharps Creek is a tributary of the Row River in Lane County, in the U.S. state of Oregon. It begins near Bohemia Mountain and the Calapooia Divide of the Cascade Range and flows generally northwest to meet the river. Much of its course lies within the Umpqua National Forest. Sharps Creek enters the Row River at the unincorporated community of Culp Creek, about southeast of Cottage Grove. According to ''Oregon Geographic Names'', Sharps Creek was named for James H. "Bohemia" Sharp, a local prospector and road builder. The "Bohemia" in Sharp's nickname stemmed from another miner, James Johnson, who in 1863 found lode gold deposits on the mountain. Earlier prospectors had found placer gold in the creek in 1858. Johnson was nicknamed "Bohemia" because he had grown up in Bohemia in eastern Europe.
