Rovaniemen Palloseura
Rovaniemen Palloseura (RoPS) is a football (soccer), football club founded in 1950 and based in Rovaniemi, Finland. In 2019 RoPS participated in the Finnish Premier Division, (''Veikkausliiga'') marking their 32nd season in the top flight (previously called "Veikkausliiga") since 1981. The club plays home games at the Rovaniemen Keskuskenttä in the Arctic Circle of Lapland. The closest affiliated team is RoPS/2 from Kakkonen who participates in the third tier of Finnish football. History RoPS have won the Finnish Cup on two occasions, in 1986 and 2013, and were runners-up in 1962. They placed third in the Finnish Premier Division in 1988 Mestaruussarja, 1988 and 1989, before finishing as runner-up in 2015 Veikkausliiga, 2015, losing out on the title by 1 point to eventual champions Seinäjoen Jalkapallokerho, SJK. Rovaniemen Keskuskenttä
Keskuskenttä is a multi-purpose stadium in Rovaniemi, Finland. It is currently used for football matches, football training and sport classes of nearby schools and daycare centres. During winter there is a skiing track for young skiers. The stadium has covered seating capacity of 2800, in two stands. Main stand capacity is 2000, second stand 800. Total capacity is up to over 5000. For running there are three tracks, with fourth track in front of main stand. Lanes are green in color. The stadium has a new floodlighting with capacity of 1000 lux installed in 2008. During summer 2009 the grass pitch was replaced with third generation artificial turf with under-soil heating. Cost of stadium renovation so far is 1,5 million euros. During the grass pitch dig-up in June 2009, a German World War II -era 105-millimeter artillery shell was uncovered from ground. Finnish League Cup
The Finnish League Cup was a knock-out association football, football competition contested annually during the pre-season in winter by teams from Veikkausliiga. The league cup was abolished after the 2016 tournament and replaced with the Finnish Cup group stage starting from the 2017 season. League cup will be played again in spring of 2022. Nchimunya Mweetwa
Nchimunya Mweetwa (born March 22, 1984) is a Zambian football striker for Nico United. Career Mweetwa began his career whilst still at high school, with his Choma based school being a feeder club for local second division club Kabibya United. After playing for Medical Stars, Ndola United, Kitwe United and Zesco United in Zambia, Mweetwa went on trial with Finnish Veikkausliiga club RoPS, eventually signing with them. During his first season with RoPS, Mweetwa scored 17 goals in 24 games, which included a run of scoring 1 goal in 12 consecutive games. Mweetwa's second season was cut short by a serious knee injury. In the 2010 Ykkönen season Mweetwa made dramatic come-back with total of 13 goals in 23 games, of which in 13 he was in the starting line-up. Chanda Mwaba
Chanda Mwaba (born October 2, 1988) is a Zambian football midfielder who is currently a free agent. Mwaba was one of the Zambians who came to RoPS in 2007,aged just 18, joining RoPS with Nchimunya Mweetwa, Stephen Kunda, Chileshe Chibwe and Zeddy Saileti's younger brother Derik Saileti for a trial. The quintet of Mweetwa, Kunda, Chibwe and Mwaba were awarded professional contracts with RoPS, with Mwaba signing a 4-year deal (until 2010), but extended it for a further 2 years in 2007. At the end of the season RoPS won promotion to Veikkausliiga (Finnish Premier Division), and Mwaba was called by Kari Virtanen the most promising 18-year-old in Finland he has seen.
