Antsalova is a town and commune ( mg, kaominina) in western Madagascar. It belongs to the district of Antsalova, which is a part of Melaky Region. The population of the commune was estimated to be approximately 58,280 in 2018. Antsalova is served by a local Antsalova Airport. Primary and junior level secondary education are available in town. Maintirano
Maintirano is a coastal city, commune urbaine (urban municipality), ( mg, kaominina) and Catholic bishopric in western Madagascar approximately 325 kilometres west of the capital Antananarivo. It belongs to the district of Maintirano, which is a part of Melaky Region – and is capital of both. The population of the commune was estimated to be approximately 25,788 in 2018. The city is inhabited mainly by the Sakalava tribe. Economy and infrastructure The climate is fairly hot and access to the region is difficult due to lack of roads and few commercial flights. Madagascar's network of about 4500 roads spans approximately and is focused on facilitating transportation to and from Antananarivo. Transportation on these roads, most of which are unpaved and two lanes wide, is often dangerous. Long-distance travel is often accomplished in ('bush taxis'), which may be shared by 20 or more people. While most primary roads are in good condition, the World Food Program has classified two-thirds of the roads as poor condition.
