National Route 9 (in Spanish, ''Ruta Nacional PY09'', better known as ''Ruta Transchaco'') is a national highway in Paraguay, which crosses the Paraguayan Chaco, crossing the departments of Presidente Hayes, and Boquerón. José Falcón is a district in Presidente Hayes Department of Paraguay, located 48 km North of Asuncion, which one can go from, through the Route 12 (via Héroes del Chaco bridge). Geography Located in the Western region of Paraguay, in the area of Paraguayan Chaco. Its physical appearance is part of the characteristics of the Chaco soil: lowland with abundant vegetation of palm trees. Pozo Colorado
Pozo Colorado is a town in Paraguay, located in the department of Presidente Hayes. First references for the place comes from the late 1890s. It was originally an Enxet village yexwase’ yamelkyet. Pozo Colorado is the Spanish translation for Red Well. After the Chaco War, it became primarily a military base, surrounded by ranches whose owners lived mainly in Asunción. As the Ruta Transchaco cut across the Chacoan plain, entrepreneurs arrived creating a small civilian enclave setting up small businesses. It is now quite a thriving small town or village with more petrol stations than any other small town of Paraguay. Strategic importance Mariscal Estigarribia is home to Dr. Luis Maria Argaña International Airport (IATA code: ESG), which some media reports claim is a US military bases, US military base set up to provide access to the strategic Triple Frontera region. 400 US troops arrived in Paraguay in July 2005, shortly after the Paraguayan Senate granted US troops diplomatic immunity. Filadelfia () is the capital of Boquerón Department in the Gran Chaco of western Paraguay. It is the centre of the Fernheim Colony. It is about a 5-hour drive from the capital of Asunción. Filadelfia lay near the front of the Chaco War, but was little affected.
