Route 1 (Nagoya Expressway)
is an urban expressway in Nagoya, Japan. It is a part of the Nagoya Expressway network and is owned and operated by Nagoya Expressway Public Corporation. Overview The route extends northward from its junction with the Ring Route and continues until its junction with the Higashi-Meihan Expressway. It is 4 lanes for its entire length and was built as an elevated expressway above the median of National Route 41. The first section of the route was opened to traffic in 1988 and the entire route was completed in 1995. NEX Plaza, an information center run by Nagoya Expressway Public Corporation, is sandwiched in the middle of a looping ramp that makes up part of Kurokawa Interchange. In the field of road transport, an interchange (American English) or a grade-separated junction (British English) is a road junction that uses grade separations to allow for the movement of traffic between two or more roadways or highways, using a system of interconnecting roadways to permit traffic on at least one of the routes to pass through the junction without interruption from crossing traffic streams. is a national highway connecting Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, and Toyama, Toyama Prefecture, Japan. The bulk of the road run throughs Gifu Prefecture. The route is also referred to as ''Yon-ichi'' and ''Shippin'', based on the Japanese readings for the route numbering. The road generally follows the route of JR Central's Takayama Main Line, except for a few locations around the cities of Takayama and Hida. The northern part of the route is generally used for sightseeing and the southern part is for industry. As a result, the northern areas are generally crowded only on weekends and holidays, whereas the southern areas, especially around Nagoya, have high traffic volume every day. Higashi-Meihan Expressway
The is a four lane national expressway in the Tōkai region of Japan. It is owned and operated by Central Nippon Expressway Company. Naming Meihan is a kanji acronym of two characters. The first character represents Nagoya (名古屋) and the second character represents Osaka (大阪). Higashi (東) means east; together with the Meihan Expressway and Nishi-Meihan Expressway, it forms a corridor linking the greater Nagoya and Osaka areas. Officially, the route is designated as the Kinki Expressway Nagoya Osaka Route, however this designation does not appear on any signage. In some areas, signs on the route are written in Japanese as 東名阪道 or ひがし名阪道; this is to prevent confusion with the Tōmei Expressway which looks similar when written in Japanese.
