Round About Hills or Peacefields is a historic slave plantation home located at Glenwood, Howard County, Maryland. An alternate address for this house is 14581 McClintock Drive, Glenwood, Maryland. It was built about 1773 on a 266-acre land patent and consists of a -story frame house with a stone end. Thomas Beale Dorsey inherited the property in 1794 then exchanged his interest in the plantation with Thomas Cook's stagecoach wayside town Cooksville. Glenwood, Howard County, Maryland
Glenwood is an unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland, United States. It is located between Baltimore and Washington, D.C., therefore attracting commuters to those employment centers. The community features acres of open space and is districted to Bushy Park Elementary, Glenwood and Folly Quarter Middle, and Glenelg High schools. Union Chapel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and Round About Hills was added in 2008. The population in 2020 was approximately 3,416. Thomas Beale Dorsey
Thomas Beale Dorsey (October 17, 1780 – December 26, 1855) was an American farmer, lawyer, politician and judge in Anne Arundel County and Maryland. Early life Thomas Beale Dorsey was born on October 17, 1780, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland to Comfort Worthington Dorsey and John Worthington Dorsey. He attended St. John's College in Annapolis. Career In 1807, Dorsey became a member of the Baltimore City house of delegates. He was a member of the Committee of Grievances and Courts of Justice, Committee on Laws to Expire, Committee to Consider and Report on the Communication from the Governors of New Jersey and Delaware, and the Committee to Examine Laws of Maryland Regulating the Election of Members of Congress. Cooksville, Maryland
Cooksville is an unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland, United States. As of 2016, the population was 631. The town was founded by Thomas Cook in 1802. The crossroads town was anchored by the Joshua Roberts Tavern, where General Lafayette visited in 1824. The inn was destroyed by fire, rebuilt, and demolished a second time. Thomas Cook exchanged his stake in Cooksville with Thomas Beale Dorsey for the 231-acre Round About Hills slave plantation. A Post Office opened on the 4th of July 1851, the same year Howard County was formed from a portion of Anne Arundel County. Roberts Inn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Roxbury Mill
Roxbury Mill is a historic flour and grist mill located in Glenwood, Howard County, Maryland, now part of the Howard County Farm Museum. The Roxbury Mill is located next to the Catt Tale (Cat Tail) river and with construction starting in 1753 by Capt. Philemon Dorsey Richard and John Dorsey settled plantations near the site in 1776. The -story stone mill with cellar was completed after 1791. It used an Oliver Evans licensed automated milling process that cost $20 at the time. Samuel Thomas paid $800 damages to Evans in April 1818 for using the technology without a license. In 1850, the mill owned by Allen Bowie Davis was in full production with two employees and one packer producing 125,000 lb of meal and 25,000 lb chop flour on three wheels. The Dorsey family sent slaves from Roxbury Mills in their place during the Civil War Draft. In 1874 it was sold to George Peddicord.
