Rough Waters
''Rough Waters'' is a 1930 American pre-Code all-talking adventure drama film that directed by John Daumery and starring Rin Tin Tin. The film was adapted by James A. Starr from a story by Lillie Hayward, and was the last Rin Tin Tin film produced by Warner Bros. Plot The film begins with a parked car with drawn curtains inside of which three gangsters (played by Walter Miller, Richard Alexander and Skeets Noyes) and silently waiting for their prey. When a large closed vehicle approaches the car with gangsters it crashes and the gangsters quickly rush to the vehicle, kill the chauffeur and two guards and steal a satchel with 100,000 dollars. The gangsters then look for a hideout and find a fishing hut. This hut is the home of Capt. Thomas (Breese), who can no longer walk and is confined to a wheelchair, and his young daughter Mary (Ralston). Mary is in love with Cal Morton (Chandler), who is a policeman that rides a motorcycle. John Daumery
Jean Daumery (1898-1934) was a Belgian-born film director. Jean (John) Daumery is the pseudonym of Jean Nicolas Pierre Ysaÿe. He was born in Brussels (Belgium) on 17 May 1898. He was the son of the pianist and composer Théo Ysaÿe and the actress Carrie Mess, better known as Carrie Daumery. His uncle was the famous violinist Eugène Ysaÿe. In the First World War, Jean Ysaÿe was a soldier who shot films for the Belgian army behind the front. During this work he had inhaled poison gas from which he died in Lausanne (Switzerland) on 3 May 1934. Two months before his death, he married Béatrice Henriette Potter. As a film director he worked in Paris and London for Warner Bros. First National. Richard Alexander (actor)
Richard Alexander (November 19, 1902 – August 9, 1989) was an American film character actor. Biography Born in Dallas, Texas, Alexander appeared in numerous film serials such as ''Flash Gordon'', ''Zorro Rides Again'' and films like '' Babes in Toyland'', ''The Gladiator'', as well as a leading role in '' All Quiet on the Western Front''. Although he appeared in countless films, almost all of his appearances were uncredited (see filmography below). Alexander died at age 86 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California. For films in which any portion of the footage remains (including trailers), see List of incomplete or partially lost films. Reasons for loss Films may go missing for a number of reasons. One major contributing factor is the common use of nitrate film until the early 1950s. This type of film is highly flammable, and there have been several devastating fires, such as the Universal Pictures fire in 1924, the 1937 Fox vault fire and the 1965 MGM vault fire. Black-and-white film prints judged to be otherwise worthless were sometimes incinerated to salvage the meager scrap value of the silver image particles in their emulsions. Lost Film
A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." William Irving (actor)
William Irving (17 May 1893 – 25 December 1943) was a German-born American film actor. Biography The burly character actor appeared in more than 220 films between 1916 and 1941, often as a "comic heavy" in the comedies of Our Gang or The Three Stooges. Irving also appeared as a cowardly German army cook in ''All Quiet on the Western Front'' (1930). He played mostly supporting roles in the silent era, but after the introduction of sound films his appearances got noticeably smaller and he was often uncredited. On Christmas Day, 1943, Irving was crossing the street at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles, California, when he was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver. Lillie Hayward
Lillie Hayward (born Lillian Olenda Auen, September 12, 1891 – June 29, 1977) was an American screenwriter whose Hollywood career began during the silent film, silent era and continued well into the television, age of television. She wrote for more than 70 films and TV shows including the Walt Disney, Disney film ''The Shaggy Dog (1959 film), The Shaggy Dog'' and television series The Mickey Mouse Club and ''Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color''. She was also remembered for the films ''Her Husband's Secretary'' and ''Aloma of the South Seas (1941 film), Aloma of the South Seas'', the latter written in part with the help of her sister, actress and screenwriter Seena Owen. Lillie Hayward died in 1977 and was interred at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles. Her husband of seventeen years, Jerry Sackheim, was also a Hollywood writer with whom she had worked on ''The Boy and the Pirates'' (1960).
