Rotterdam Half Marathon
The Rotterdam Half Marathon was an annual half marathon race over 21.1 kilometres, that was staged in Rotterdam, the Netherlands on the second Sunday in September. The event was contested from 2004 to 2009. It was discontinued in 2010 due to lacking participation. In 2022, the race returned co-inciding with the World Police and Fire Games that were held in Rotterdam that year. The municipality of Rotterdam did not grant an event permit for an edition in 2023. Half Marathon
A half marathon is a road running event of —half the distance of a marathon. It is common for a half marathon event to be held concurrently with a marathon or a 5K race, using almost the same course with a late start, an early finish or shortcuts. If finisher medals are awarded, the medal or ribbon may differ from those for the full marathon. The half marathon is also known as a 21K, 21.1K or 13.1 miles, although these values are rounded and not formally correct. A half marathon world record is officially recognised by the International Association of Athletics Federations. Evans Cheruiyot
Evans Kiprop Cheruiyot (born May 10, 1982, in Kapkoi village, Keiyo District) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes in the marathon. He started out as a half marathon runner, taking wins in Rotterdam and Nairobi, and won his debut marathon race in Milan in 2007. He won the Chicago Marathon in 2008, running a personal best of 2:06:25 hours. Cheruiyot has also represented Kenya internationally and was the bronze medallist at the 2007 IAAF World Road Running Championships. Background A mechanic by training, Cheruiyot is the seventh-born of a family of nine. Egmond Half Marathon
The Egmond Half Marathon ( nl, Egmond Halve Marathon) is an annual half marathon race over 21.1 kilometres that has been staged in Egmond aan Zee, Netherlands since 1973. The competition normally takes place in early January. Sections of the road race cross along the beach and sand dunes of the village, situated on the North Sea coast. The 2010 edition of the race was cancelled due to poor weather conditions, marking the first break in the race's history. In addition to the elite level races, the event features recreational fun runs for the public, including a team race for friends or colleagues. The first editions of the event attracted around 1000 runners – a number which increased to over 5000 runners by the mid-1980s. A record 10,370 participants competed in 2000 and the race continued to grow in popularity, attracting over 16,500 people for the 2009 edition.
