Rotinoff Super Atlantic
The Rotinoff Super Atlantic is a 6×4 ballast tractor made by the British company Rotinoff Motors Ltd. The Swiss Army bought ten of them (in Atlantic and Super Atlantic configuration) in 1958, which they used to pull trailers built by Scheuerle with a payload capacity of 50 tons. These were used for transporting the tank Pz 55/57 Centurion tank, thus reaching the total weight of 104 tons. The Rotinoff Super Atlantic features a fuel capacity of 580 litres in two tanks. In addition to the three places in the cabin there are also two standing outside for traffic control available. Rotinoff Motors
Rotinoff Motors Ltd was a British commercial vehicle manufacturer based in Colnbrook in western London. The company was founded in 1952 by the Belarusian émigré George Rotinoff. The Rotinoff company specialized in the production of ballast tractors and heavy transport vehicles. The vehicles of Rotinoff were widely used in Europe as tractors for tank transporters. In the Swiss army, the Rotinoff Atlantic GR 7 was used from 1958 - 1991 by the tank troops to haul Centurion tanks. More Rotinoff transporters were in use as road trains in Australia for the transport of cattle. George Rotinoff died in 1959, and the brand name Rotinoff was then discontinued. The Rolls-Royce ''C range'' was a series of in-line 4, 6 and 8 cylinder diesel engines used in small railway locomotives, construction vehicles, marine and similar applications. They were manufactured by the Rolls-Royce Oil Engine Division headed by W. A. Robotham to 1963, initially at Derby and later at Shrewsbury, from the 1950s through to 1970s. A ballast tractor is a specially weighted tractor unit of a heavy hauler combination. It is designed to utilize a drawbar to pull or push heavy or exceptionally large trailer loads which are loaded in a hydraulic modular trailer. When feasible, lowboy-style semi-trailers are used to minimize a load's center of gravity. Typical drivetrains are 6×4 and 6×6 but also available in 8×6 and 8×8. Typical ballast tractor loads include oil rig modules, bridge sections, buildings, ship sections, and industrial machinery such as generators and turbines. Only a handful of manufacturers produce dedicated ballast tractors. Centurion Tank
The Centurion was the primary British Army main battle tank of the post-World War II period. Introduced in 1945, it is widely considered to be one of the most successful post-war tank designs, remaining in production into the 1960s, and seeing combat into the 1980s. The chassis was adapted for several other roles, and these variants have remained in service. It was a very popular tank with good armour, manoeuvrability, and armament.
