Rostock Piranhas
Rostock Piranhas are the male first team of the ''Rostocker Ice Hockey Club'', based in Rostock, Germany. The team plays in the North Section of the Oberliga (''Upper League''), the third tier of German ice hockey. The team's home ice is the Eishalle Rostock at the ''Schillingallee'' in the ''Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt'' (KTV) area of Rostock, next to DKB-Arena. History Ice hockey has always been a popular sport in Germany and in Rostock. In 1955/1956, SG Dynamo Rostock were part of the DDR 1. Liga. In the 1956/57 season, the Dynamo were joined on the ice by a team from SC Empor Rostock. In the 1970s, both Dynamo and Empor had folded, to be replaced by BSG Chemie 70 Rostock. By this time, ice hockey in East Germany was very much a minority sport and BSG Chemie played very few games. Rostock (), officially the Hanseatic and University City of Rostock (german: link=no, Hanse- und Universitätsstadt Rostock), is the largest city in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and lies in the Mecklenburgian part of the state, close to the border with Pomerania. Sergei Yashin
Sergei Anatolyevich Yashin (russian: Сергей Анатольевич Яшин; 6 March 1962 – 12 April 2022) was a Soviet and Russian professional ice hockey left winger. Yashin played in the Soviet Championship League for HC Dynamo Moscow, the Eishockey-Bundesliga for EHC Dynamo Berlin, and the Russian Superleague for SKA Saint Petersburg. He was also a member of the Soviet Union men's national ice hockey team and played in the 1988 Winter Olympics where he won a gold medal. Yashin was inducted into the Russian and Soviet Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988. He died on 12 April 2022, at the age of 60. The Lausitzer Füchse (literally ''Lusatian Foxes'') is a professional ice hockey team based in Weißwasser, Saxony. They currently play in DEL2, the second level of ice hockey in Germany. Prior to the 2013–14 season they played in the 2nd Bundesliga. History The team was founded already in 1932 but is most significant for its remarkable domination as SG Dynamo Weißwasser in the GDR ice hockey league with over 25 championships. Mecklenburg (; nds, label=Low German, Mękel(n)borg ) is a historical region in northern Germany comprising the western and larger part of the federal-state Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Eisbären Berlin (; English: ''Berlin Polar Bears'') is a professional ice hockey team based in Berlin, Germany. The team competes in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), the highest level of play in professional German ice hockey, and is also one of the league's founding members.
