Rosthern is a town at the juncture of Saskatchewan Highway 11, Highway 11 and Saskatchewan Highway 312, Highway 312 in the central area of Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located roughly halfway between the cities of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Prince Albert and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Saskatoon. History Mennonite settlers, led by Gerhard Ens, began arriving in the area around 1890, with the establishment of the Qu’Appelle, Long Lake & Saskatchewan Railway to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Prince Albert. The post office was established in 1893, and by 1898 the community achieved village status. In 1903, Rosthern was incorporated as a town. There are several apocryphal versions of the story about how the town got its name. Saskatchewan Highway 11
Highway 11 is a major north-south highway in Saskatchewan, Canada that connects the province's three largest cities: Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert. It is a structural pavement major arterial highway which is approximately long. It is also known as the Louis Riel Trail (LRT) after the 19th century Métis leader. It runs from Highway 1 (Trans-Canada Highway) in Regina until Highway 2 south of Prince Albert. Historically the southern portion between Regina and Saskatoon was Provincial Highway 11, and followed the Dominion Survey lines on the square, and the northern portion between Saskatoon and Prince Albert was Provincial Highway 12. Rosthern-Shellbrook is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. This constituency was created by the ''Representation Act, 2002'' (Saskatchewan) out of the districts of Rosthern, Shellbrook-Spiritwood, and Redberry Lake. Rostherne
Rostherne is a civil parish and village in the unitary authority of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England (). To the north of the village is Rostherne Mere and to the south is Tatton Park. The A556 road passes to its west. History In the 11th century Rostherene was called ''Rodestorne'', said to mean the Lake of the Holy Cross, from the Anglo-Saxon ''Rodes'', meaning cross and the northern word ''torne'' or ''tarne'' meaning lake. At the time of the Domesday Book the parish belonged to Gilbert de Venables, Baron of Kinderton, who displaced Ulviet the Saxon as owner of the lands, although there was then only one rateable field in the parish, one team and two acres of wood, the whole only being worth four shillings a year. Seager Wheeler Farm
Seager Wheeler's Maple Grove Farm is a National Historic Site of Canada. Seager Wheeler's Maple Grove Farm was a farm owned and operated by agronomist Seager Wheeler (1868–1961) "Wheat King of the Prairies" or "The Wheat Wizard of Rosthern" who developed dry land farming techniques as well as fruit and wheat strains which could grow in a short prairie growing season followed by harsh winters. Seager came to Canada in 1885 and applied for his own homestead in 1890. Scott Moe
Scott Moe (born July 31, 1973) is a Canadian politician serving as the 15th and current premier of Saskatchewan since February 2, 2018. He is a member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan for the riding of Rosthern-Shellbrook, first elected in 2011. He served in the Saskatchewan Party cabinet from 2014 to 2017 under the premiership of Brad Wall, twice as minister of environment and also as minister of advanced education. In January 2018 he was chosen to succeed Wall as leader of the Saskatchewan Party. He led the Saskatchewan Party to a fourth consecutive majority mandate in the 2020 provincial election. Gerhard Ens
Gerhard Ens (January 9, 1864 O.S. ">Old_Style_and_New_Style_dates.html" ;"title="ecember 28, 1863 Old Style and New Style dates">O.S. – January 2, 1952) was a Ukrainian-born farmer, immigration agent and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Batoche (former electoral district), Batoche from 1905 to 1908 and Rosthern (provincial electoral district), Rosthern from 1908 to 1913 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Saskatchewan Liberal Party, Liberal. He was born in Neuendorf, Chortitza Colony, the son of Kornelius G. Ens and Barbara Giesbrecht. In 1883, Ens married Anna Dyck. He came to Canada with his family in 1891. Ens is considered by many to be the founder of Rosthern, Saskatchewan. After the death of his first wife, he married Maria (Epp) Penner in 1936. Mennonite
Mennonites are groups of Anabaptist Christian church communities of denominations. The name is derived from the founder of the movement, Menno Simons (1496–1561) of Friesland.
