Rossmere is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1968, and has formally existed since the provincial election of 1969. The riding is located in the northeastern section of the City of Winnipeg. Rossmere is bordered on the southeast by Radisson, to the south by Elmwood and Concordia, to the north & west by Kildonan-River East. Rossmere's population in 2018 was 21,150. In 2018, the average family income was $70,969, and the unemployment rate was 6.80%. According to a 2018 boundary commission, 20.8% of the riding's residents were immigrants; 25% listed German as their ethnic origin, and a further 11% are Ukrainian. The aboriginal population was 12.7%. Rossmere is relatively affluent, and most of its residents are in the middle-income range. 1988 Manitoba General Election
The 1988 Manitoba general election was held on April 26, 1988 to elect Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Manitoba, Canada. It resulted in a minority government. The Progressive Conservative Party won 25 seats, against 20 for the Liberal Party and 12 for the New Democratic Party. Background The election was called unexpectedly in early 1988, after disgruntled NDP backbencher Jim Walding voted against his government's budget on March 9, 1988. With former cabinet minister Laurent Desjardins having essentially abandoned his seat earlier in the year, the Legislative Assembly was almost evenly divided. Walding's defection thus resulted in Howard Pawley's NDP government being defeated, 28 votes to 27. Radisson (electoral District)
Radisson is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1957, and has formally existed since the 1958 provincial election. The riding is located in the northeastern section of the City of Winnipeg and is named after Pierre-Esprit Radisson, a seventeenth-century explorer. Radisson is bordered on the east by Transcona and Springfield, to the south by Southdale, to the north by River East, and to the west by Rossmere, Concordia and St. Boniface. The Canadian National Railway Symington Yards are in the southern part of the riding. The riding's population in 1996 was 20,113. In 1999, the average family income was $54084, and the unemployment rate was 4.60%. Radisson's francophone population is 9%, and there are also significant Ukrainian (7%) and German (6%) communities. Kildonan was a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. The boundaries for the riding maintained their location through the 2008 redistribution. History Kildonan riding (1870–1899) The original Kildonan riding was created at the time of the province's establishment in 1870. It was dominated by Manitoba's "old settler" population (i.e., English-speaking families who had lived in the Red River Settlement for many years before the province's creation). There was a large "mixed blood" aboriginal population in the riding, and many of its residents were also of Scottish or partly Scottish ancestry. From 1886 to 1888, the riding was incorporated into "Kildonan and St. Paul" riding. The Legislative Assembly of Manitoba (french: Assemblée législative du Manitoba) is the deliberative assembly of the Manitoba Legislature in the Canadian province of Manitoba. Fifty-seven members are elected to this assembly at provincial general elections, all in single-member constituencies with first-past-the-post voting. Bills passed by the Legislative Assembly are given royal assent by the King of Canada in Right of Manitoba, represented by the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba. 2016 Manitoba General Election
The 2016 Manitoba general election was held on April 19, 2016 to elect members to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, Canada. The New Democratic Party of Manitoba, led by Greg Selinger, were defeated by the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba led by Brian Pallister, ending nearly 17 years of NDP government. The Tories won 40 seats, one of the largest majority governments in Manitoba history, the other one was in 1915 when Liberals also won 40 seats. The 2007 Manitoba general election was held on May 22, 2007 to elect Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Manitoba, Canada. It was won by the New Democratic Party, which won 36 seats out of 57. The Progressive Conservative Party finished second with nineteen seats. The Liberal Party won two seats. 1999 Manitoba General Election
The 1999 Manitoba general election was held on September 21, 1999 to elect Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Manitoba, Canada. The New Democratic Party (NDP) was returned to government after sitting in opposition since the 1988 election. The NDP won 32 seats, against 24 for the Progressive Conservative Party.
