Death Of Brian Rossiter
The death of Brian Rossiter occurred at Cork University Hospital in Cork (city), Cork, Ireland, on 14 September 2002, as a result of head injuries he had sustained several days earlier. Fourteen-year-old Brian Rossiter had been arrested for a public order offence on the night of 10/11 September 2002, falling into a coma whilst in custody at Clonmel Garda Síochána, garda station. Prior to his arrest, Rossiter had been assaulted by Noel Hannigan, who was later found guilty of this offence and sentenced to two and a half years imprisonment. However, the case was the focus of much controversy and media speculation within Ireland, owing to concerns as to whether the injuries that caused Rossiter's death occurred, not as a result of Hannigan's assault, but while he was in custody. Leonard Rossiter
Leonard Rossiter (21 October 1926 – 5 October 1984) was an English actor. He had a long career in the theatre but achieved his highest profile for his television comedy roles starring as Rupert Rigsby in the ITV series ''Rising Damp'' from 1974 to 1978, and Reginald Perrin in the BBC's ''The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin'' from 1976 to 1979. Early life and stage work Rossiter was born on 21 October 1926 in Wavertree, Liverpool, the second son of John and Elizabeth (née Howell) Rossiter. The family lived over the barber shop owned by his father. He was educated at the Liverpool Collegiate School (1939–46). Thomas Prichard Rossiter (1818–1871) was an American artist born in New Haven, Connecticut. Known for his portraits and paintings of historical scenes, he later came to be associated with the Hudson River School of artists. Life and career Rossiter was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1818. He first studied painting with John Boyd, and later with Nathaniel Jocelyn. In 1838, he exhibited two paintings at the National Academy of Design; the following year he moved to New York City and opened a studio. In 1840 he traveled in Europe with Asher B. Durand, John Kensett, and John William Casilear. While there, he visited Rome with Thomas Cole, and decided to stay in Italy. In 1846, he returned to New York City and shared a studio with Kensett and Louis Lang. In 1849, Rossiter was elected to the National Academy. In 1851, he married Anna Ehrick Parmly. Percival Stuart Bryce Rossiter (25 February 1923 – 1982) was a renowned British philatelist and postal historian who wrote extensively about British postal history and postage stamps of British colonies in Africa and was involved in numerous philatelic institutions. In his Will he created ''The Stuart Rossiter Trust'' which has become a leading publisher of books on postal history. Early life Stuart was educated at Framlingham College in Suffolk, leaving in 1941, after which he served in RAF Fighter Command during World War II, achieving the rank of Flying Officer. After the war he completed his education at King's College, Cambridge, where he obtained a BA degree in 1948 and an MA in 1953. Rossiter was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference player of the year and an All-American as a senior at Siena College in 2010–11. The Rossiter–McLaughlin effect is a spectroscopic phenomenon observed when an object moves across the face of a star. Description The Rossiter–McLaughlin effect is a spectroscopic phenomenon observed when either an eclipsing binary's secondary star or an extrasolar planet is seen to transit across the face of the primary or parent star. As the main star rotates on its axis, one quadrant of its photosphere will be seen to be coming towards the viewer, and the other visible quadrant to be moving away. These motions produce blueshifts and redshifts, respectively, in the star's spectrum, usually observed as a broadening of the spectral lines. When the secondary star or planet transits the primary, it blocks part of the latter's disc, preventing some of the shifted light from reaching the observer. Richard Alfred Rossiter
Richard Alfred Rossiter (December 19, 1886 January 26, 1977) was an American astronomer, known for the Rossiter–McLaughlin effect. Rossiter served as director of the Lamont–Hussey Observatory from 1928 until 1952. Early life Rossiter was born in Oswego, New York, on December 19, 1886. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1914, and married Jane van Dusen in 1915. He taught mathematics at Wesleyan Seminary for five years before enrolling in the astronomy program at the University of Michigan. He earned a master's degree in 1920, and a doctorate three years later. His doctoral dissertation, a study of the spectrum of Beta Lyrae, demonstrated that the shift that it exhibited could be accounted for by stellar rotation. Kyle Rossiter (born June 9, 1980) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the National Hockey League for the Florida Panthers and the Atlanta Thrashers. Playing career Rossiter began has career with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League and was later drafted 30th overall by the Panthers in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
