Middlefork Township is a township in Vermilion County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,458 and it contained 628 housing units. History Middlefork Township was one of the eight townships created in 1851 and included all the land that later became Butler and Ford townships. The first settlers in the township were Samuel Partlow and his wife and four sons, who arrived from Kentucky in 1829. A harsh winter caused the loss of all their cattle, and there was little game available for food; Samuel died that year and the family returned to Kentucky. Jordan Township, Warren County, Indiana
Jordan Township is one of twelve townships in Warren County, Indiana, United States. According to the 2010 census, its population was 247 and it contained 105 housing units. It is almost entirely agricultural and contains no incorporated towns. History Jordan Township was created in 1850 from a section of the adjacent Liberty Township. At this time the land was marshy and not considered very good for farming, and was used largely for grazing livestock. Starting around 1880, some of the higher ground began to be farmed, and as the population increased this was expanded. The grain grown was either fed to livestock or hauled by wagon to elevators at Ambia, West Lebanon, or Rossville, Illinois. Rossville, Illinois
Rossville is a village in Ross Township, Vermilion County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 1,221. It is part of the Danville, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The location was originally named Liggett's Grove in honor of John Liggett who built a lodging house in 1829. Liggett's cabin was located on the Hubbard Trail, an early trading route established by Gurdon Hubbard from Chicago to Danville. In 1833, this became the first state highway (now Illinois Route 1) and in 1914 was made part of the Dixie Highway. In 1838, Alvan Gilbert purchased the Liggett farm, and the following year became postmaster at the newly established post office. Rossville was incorporated as a village in August 1859. Rossville and Ross Township were named after Jacob Ross, a settler in the area.
