Roslyn Oxley
Roslyn Oxley is an Australian gallerist and art dealer. With her husband Tony Oxley, she owns and operates Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, which opened in March 1982 with an exhibition by Gareth Sansom. In January 2013, Roslyn Oxley, together with Tony Oxley was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for her services to the visual arts and the community. Roslyn Oxley is considered one of the most influential gallerists in Australia, supporting the cause of contemporary art, ‘including that which is non-commercial and otherwise challenging’. Early life Roslyn Oxley was born in Sydney as Roslyn Walton and is the daughter of John Robert Walton, founder of the Australian department store Waltons. Gareth Sansom
Gareth Sansom (born 19 November 1939) is an Australian artist, painter, printmaker and collagist and winner of the 2008 John McCaughey Memorial Prize of $100,000. Best known for introducing new themes and subject-matter into Australian art and being one of the first Australian artists to be influenced by Pop art, particularly British Pop artists like Peter Blake, Allen Jones, Derek Boshier, Joe Tilson and the formal strategies of the post-modernist R. B. Kitaj. Another major Influence was and remains the British painter Francis Bacon. He was an associate of Brett Whiteley and there was a likely mutual influence. Sansom has had a distinct influence on subsequent Australian art, paving the way for later notable artists such as Juan Davila and Howard Arkley. Waltons (department Store)
Waltons was an Australian department store chain, founded by John Walton (1904–1998). History Walton bought a menswear store in 1951, located on George Street, Sydney, opposite the Queen Victoria Building and Sydney Town Hall and near Town Hall station. Over the years it was expanded along Park Street with adjoining properties purchased. In 1955, Walton formed an alliance with the American retail giant Sears, Roebuck and Co. In the early 1960s, he started a finance company in partnership with Citibank, and also moved into insurance. That part of the business was sold to Norwich Union in 1980.
