Roslag Sheep
The Roslag sheep ( sv, Roslagsfår) is a breed of endangered domesticated sheep that originated in and is almost exclusively found in Sweden. Origins Roslag sheep originate from the remnant populations of Swedish landrace breeds that used to be rather common all over the countryside, but are generally believed to have come from Raggarön in Roslagen, Sweden from where the breed takes its name. Appearance Small and generally white or ivory colored (although 10% of the population are black or white-black bi-colored), they are a short-tailed breed who are usually used in the production of wool and meat. The wool of the Roslag sheep is a carpetwool type; with long, straight or curly guard hair and a thick cover of underwool, which can be up to 30 cm long. Only the rams of the breed are horned. Sheep or domestic sheep (''Ovis aries'') are domesticated, ruminant mammals typically kept as livestock. Although the term ''sheep'' can apply to other species in the genus ''Ovis'', in everyday usage it almost always refers to domesticated sheep. Like all ruminants, sheep are members of the order Artiodactyla, the even-toed ungulates. Numbering a little over one billion, domestic sheep are also the most numerous species of sheep. Karlshamn Municipality (''Karlshamns kommun'') is a municipality in Blekinge County in South Sweden in southern Sweden. It borders to Olofström Municipality, Sölvesborg Municipality, Ronneby Municipality and Tingsryd Municipality. The city of Karlshamn is the seat of the municipality. Administrative territory 1863 at the time of first municipal legislation in Sweden, the area was divided into the City of Karlshamn and five rural municipalities. 1881 a further subdivision was made by Asarum into Ringamåla. Långholmen
Långholmen is an island between two other islands, Södermalm and Kungsholmen, in central Stockholm, Sweden. This island can be reached via two bridges; Pålsundsbron in the east and Långholmsbron in the west. Långholmen is a popular spot for walks, picnics and swimming. The small beaches, located right outside the former prison, are usually crowded in summer. History Långholmens spinnhus was a women's prison on Långholmen. The prison was established in 1649 when the Malmgården in Alstavik at Långholmen was erected and was closed in 1825. The building became state property in 1724 and was used as a spinning house (''spinnhus''). In 1825 the spinnhus was relocated to Norrmalm. After the move, Långholmen Prison started to operate on the grounds. Långholmen Prison was built 1874—1880 as the central prison of Sweden, and was temporary closed down between 1972—1975. Estonian Ruhnu sheep ( et, Ruhnu maalammas) are a breed of native domesticated sheep found on the small Estonian island of Ruhnu in the Gulf of Riga in the Baltic Sea. The Estonian Ruhnu sheep population is thought to descend from sheep left on Ruhnu by Swedish language, Swedish-speaking inhabitants who settled on the island in the 14th century. In 1944, a population of 300 sheep was documented. The current population of the breed is around 30 animals.
