Roseworthy Agricultural School
Roseworthy Agricultural College was an agricultural college in Australia. It was north of Adelaide and west of Roseworthy town. It was the first agricultural college in Australia, established in 1883. It is now part of the University of Adelaide. History Establishment Roseworthy College was the result of an initiative to develop a model farm. The idea was that the college would be an extension of the University of Adelaide and would be run by a Professor of Agriculture. The connection with the University was dropped and in 1882 John D. Custance took up the directorship and in 1883 the college's Main Building was completed. Custance may have been an effective manager but antagonized powerful politicians, and was sacked. In 1887, William Lowrie was appointed principal. Roseworthy, South Australia
Roseworthy is a small town in South Australia, about 10 km north of Gawler on the Horrocks Highway. At the 2016 census, Roseworthy had a population of 994. Roseworthy has a large grain storage facility consisting of both storage silos and bunkers for grain grown in the surrounding areas, and grain is now taken by road transport to Port Adelaide for export where it was once taken by rail. Roseworthy is the junction of the former Peterborough railway line and Morgan railway lines, both constructed as broad gauge railway lines (although the Peterborough line was originally narrow gauge from Terowie to Peterborough), and remained that gauge for their entire service. Both lines were originally built to support export from copper mines, respectively at Burra and Kapunda before being extended beyond those towns. Jersey Cattle
The Jersey is a British breed of small dairy cattle from Jersey, in the British Channel Islands. It is one of three Channel Island cattle breeds, the others being the Alderney – now extinct – and the Guernsey. It is highly productive – cows may give over 10 times their own weight in milk per lactation; the milk is high in butterfat and has a characteristic yellowish tinge. The Jersey adapts well to various climates and environments, and unlike many breeds originating in temperate climates, these cows can tolerate heat very well. Bruce Eastick
Bruce Charles Eastick, (born 25 October 1927) is a former South Australian politician, and was South Australian Leader of the Opposition from 1972 to 1975. He was a member of the Liberal and Country League (LCL), later renamed the South Australian Division of the Liberal Party of Australia in 1974. He represented the South Australian House of Assembly seat of Light from 1970 to 1993. Gawler Council Eastick was a member of the Gawler Council from 1963 to 1972, and served as mayor from 1968 to 1972. He had a second stint as mayor from 1993 to 2000. Parliament Eastick was elected to the House of Assembly for Light, based on Gawler, in 1970. Two years later, after Steele Hall resigned as LCL leader, the party elected Eastick as his successor. David Brookman (Australian Politician)
David Norman Brookman (24 March 1917 – 22 May 2000) was a politician in the State of South Australia. History David Brookman was born in Melbourne the son of Norman Brookman (1884–1949), and his wife Ada Mary Dorothy "Nan" Brookman, née Burden, (1889–). His father Norman, who died in a car crash, was a son of Sir George Brookman (1840–1927). David was educated at St Peter's College and Roseworthy College where he gained his Diploma of Agriculture in 1938, and took over his father's farm at Meadows. He served in World War II as an artillery officer in the Middle East and Borneo with the 2nd AIF 2/7 Australian Field Regiment 9th Div. Norman Brookman
Harry Norman Brookman (22 January 1884 – 26 April 1949) was a farmer and politician in South Australia. History Norman was born at Medindie, South Australia, the second son of Eliza Martha (née Marshall; 1859–1931) and George Donald Brookman (1840–1927). His father was an MLC in South Australia, while an uncle, William Gordon Brookman, was an MLC in Western Australia and Mayor of Perth. He was a student at Roseworthy College, and during the war of 1914–1918 served in France as a gunner with the 42nd battery, 11th Brigade Field Artillery. Penfolds
Penfolds is an Australian wine producer that was founded in Adelaide in 1844 by Christopher Rawson Penfold, an English physician who emigrated to Australia, and his wife Mary Penfold. It is one of Australia's oldest wineries, and is currently part of Treasury Wine Estates. The chief winemaker since 2002 has been Peter Gago. Ray Beckwith
Arthur Ray Beckwith (23 February 1912 – 7 November 2012) was a South Australian wine chemist, whose methods enabled Penfolds' winemaker Max Schubert to produce excellent table wines, and develop his Penfolds Grange. For most of his long life his achievements and influence were overlooked but came to be recognised after his retirement.
