Rosen, Burgas Province
Rosen ( bg, Росен) is a village in Sozopol Municipality, in Burgas Province, in south-eastern Bulgaria. As of 2013 it has 1470 inhabitants. The village is situated at the river Rosenska, a tributary to the Ropotamo, at the western foothills of Medni Rid Ridge, which is the north-eastern extreme of the Bosna Ridge in the Strandzha Mountains. It is located at about 22 km south of Burgas and 19 km of the municipal centre Sozopol on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The vestiges of the medieval fortress of Krimna are situated at Bakarlaka peak in Medni Rid. Conrad Von Rosen
Conrad von Rosen (1628–1715) was a soldier from Livonia, who served in the French army under Louis XIV from 1646 on. He fought in the Franco-Dutch War (1672–1678) and the Nine Years' War (1688–1691). In 1689 he went to Ireland with James II of England and commanded the Jacobite troops during the final stage of the unsuccessful Siege of Derry. Family background Conrad was born on 29 September 1628 at Gross Roop (now Straupe) in Duchy of Livonia (now in Latvia). He was the third son of Fabian von Rosen (1590–1633) and his wife Sophia (1597–1673). Eliyahu Chaim Rosen
Eliyahu Chaim Rosen (1899–1984) was a respected rabbi and leader of the Breslov Hasidim in Uman, Ukraine before World War II. After immigrating to Israel in 1936, he founded the Breslover Yeshiva in Jerusalem and served as its rosh yeshiva for decades. Introduction to Uman Rosen was born in Pułtusk, Poland, which was then part of the Russian Empire. He was orphaned as a very young boy. He was sent to a nearby city to begin learning Torah at the age of five, and proved himself to be a gifted student. At the age of 12, he was accepted at the Łomża Yeshiva. There, he came across a copy of ''Tikkun HaKlali'' (Rebbe Nachman of Breslov's "General Remedy"), and met a Breslover Hasid who convinced him to visit the Breslover community in Uman. Rosen made the trip in 1914. David Shlomo Rosen KSG CBE (born 1951) is the former Chief Rabbi of Ireland (1979–1985) and currently serves as the American Jewish Committee's International Director of Interreligious Affairs. From 2005 until 2009 he headed the International Jewish Committee for Inter-religious Consultations (IJCIC), the broad-based coalition of Jewish organizations and denominations that represents World Jewry in its relations with other world religions. Before being appointed Chief Rabbi of Ireland, he was the senior rabbi of the largest Orthodox Jewish congregation in South Africa (the Green and Sea Point Hebrew Congregation, Cape Town) and served as a judge on the Cape Beth Din (rabbinic court). David Rosen (born September 21, 1938, in San Francisco) is an expert in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Italian opera. He is noted for having discovered the complete score of Messa per Rossini, presumed lost, in the archives of the Italian music publishing house G. Ricordi & Co in 1986. He was responsible for the critical edition of Verdi's Messa da Requiem and the Cambridge Music Handbook on the Requiem. He also discovered in the Bibliothèque Nationale a passage in Verdi's manuscript score for ''Don Carlos'' which had had to be cut in order to ensure that the opera's premiere would finish before midnight. This led to a further discovery of more music which had also been discarded. David Rosen (entomologist)
David Rosen (20 April 1936 - 8 January 1997 ) was an Israeli entomologist known for his work on pest control. He was also a specialist on the taxonomy of the Chalcidoidea. He served as Vigevani Professor of Agriculture and Professor of Entomology at the Faculty of Agriculture of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Rosen was born to Josef and Fela in Tel-Aviv where he went to high school. He later studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and studied under Zvi Avidov followed by Ph.D. studies under Israel Cohen on biological control in citrus. He was awarded the Jacobson Prize for citrus research in 1965. His postdoctoral studies were with Paul DeBach at the University of California, Riverside after which he returned to Israel to work at the Hebrew University. He died of cancer in 1997.
