Rosemary Campbell
Rosemary Campbell (born 1941) is a New Zealand artist and teacher. Background Campbell was born in Timaru, New Zealand, in 1941. Campbell attended the Ilam School of Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury. In 1974 she received a Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council Scholarship to study at the École des Beaux-Arts where she focused on lithography and etching. Career Landscape and music are the major themes in Campbell's work although she does a considerable number of commissioned portraits. Campbell works predominantly in watercolour, and in oils for her portraiture. After completing her Fine Arts degree, Campbell returned to South Canterbury and has taught at the Timaru Girls' High School, Craighead Diocesan School, and Aoraki Polytechnic. Timaru
Timaru (; mi, Te Tihi-o-Maru) is a port city in the southern Canterbury Region of New Zealand, located southwest of Christchurch and about northeast of Dunedin on the eastern Pacific coast of the South Island. Centre of Contemporary Art (CoCA, formerly the Canterbury Society of Arts) is a curated art gallery in the central city of Christchurch, New Zealand. The gallery is administered by the Canterbury Society of Arts (CSA) Charitable Trust. Quarterly seasonal exhibitions are overseen by a curatorium of experts from New Zealand and overseas, headed by new Director and Principal Curator Paula Orrell. The gallery is focused on curating and commissioning artwork, rather than simply acquiring collections. The Group (New Zealand Art)
The Group was an informal but influential art association formed in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1927. Initially begun by ex-students from Canterbury College of Art, its aim was to provide a freer, more experimental alternative to the academic salon painting exhibitions of the Canterbury Society of Arts. The Group exhibited annually for 50 years, from 1927 to 1977, and it was continuously at the forefront of New Zealand art's avant-garde scene. Many of the country's best-known artists were associated at some time with The Group. Among these are Colin McCahon, Doris Lusk, Toss Woollaston, Rita Angus, Olivia Spencer Bower, Leo Bensemann, Rata Lovell-Smith, Philip Trusttum, and Douglas MacDiarmid.
