Rosales Municipality

	Rosales Municipality Rosales is one of the 67 municipalities of Chihuahua, in northern Mexico. The municipal seat lies at Santa Cruz de Rosales. The municipality covers an area of 1716.6 km². As of 2010, the municipality had a total population of 16,785, up from 15,935 as of 2005. The municipality had 572 localities, the largest of which (with 2010 populations in parentheses) were: Santa Cruz de Rosales, Chihuahua, Santa Cruz de Rosales (5,570), Congregación Ortíz, Chihuahua, Congregación Ortíz (2,620), classified as urban, and El Molino, Chihuahua, El Molino (2,191) and Kilómetro Noventa y Nueve, Chihuahua, Kilómetro Noventa y Nueve (1,092), classified as rural. picture info	Víctor Rosales Víctor Rosales; (1776 – 20 May 1817), was a Mexican military officer born in Zacatecas, in the central Viceroyalty of New Spain. Rosales was a field marshal in the Mexican War of Independence. In the Mexican War of Independence, Rosales served as commander in the Mexican Revolutionary Army under Ignacio López Rayón. He served with distinction in the Battle of Zacatecas. In 1817 Rosales was named commander-in-chief of the Mexican Revolutionary Army in Michoacán. He was killed in action on 20 May 1817, during the Battle of Ario, Michoacán against the Spanish royalists. For his actions he was posthumously awarded as Deserving Citizen in Heroic Degree by the Mexican Congress. Retrieved on October 25, 2008 History The Rosales region, formed by the middle and lower reaches of the San Pedro River, was evangelized during the seventeenth century by Franciscans who settled among the indigenous Conchos and founded the Misión de San Pedro de Conchos in the mid-17th century.
