Rosa Regàs
Rosa Regàs (born 1933, in Barcelona) is a Spanish writer and novelist. She is a recipient of the Premio Planeta de Novela and the Premio Nadal. Biography Rosa Regàs was born in Barcelona in 1933. During the Spanish Civil War she was exiled to France, until it ended when she was 6 years old. She was educated at a religious boarding school in Barcelona. She subsequently obtained a Degree in Philosophy at the University of Barcelona, where she met Spanish poets such as José Agustín Goytisolo, Jaime Gil de Biedma and Gabriel Ferraté. Her literary training was consolidated between 1964 and 1970 during her work at the legendary publishing house Seix Barral (now part of Grupo Planeta), with Carlos Barral. In 1970 she founded the publishing company La Gaya Ciencia and began publishing works by authors who were little known at the time, such as Juan Benet, Álvaro Pombo, María Zambrano, Manuel Vázquez Montalbán and Javier Marías, amongst many others. Oriol Bohigas
Oriol Bohigas i Guardiola (20 December 1925 – 30 November 2021) was a Spanish architect and urban planner, known for his work in the modernization of Barcelona. Early life Bohigas was born in Barcelona, Spain, on 20 December 1925 in a Catalan bourgeois family. His father was the philologist and he studied at the Institut-Escola de la Generalitat. During the Civil War he moved to Olot, province of Girona, where he continued his high school studies. Bohigas graduated in architecture in 1951 from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona (Barcelona School of Architecture), where in 1963 he obtained the title of Doctor of Architecture. Career Bohigas was a critic of the architecture of his city and an advocate of modernity from as early as age 20. Josep Pla i Casadevall (; 8 March 1897 – 23 April 1981) was a Spanish journalist and a popular author. As a journalist he worked in France, Italy, England, Germany and Russia, from where he wrote political and cultural chronicles in Catalan and Spanish. Biography The son of rural business owners of modest means from Baix Empordà, he obtained his high school diploma in Girona, where, beginning in 1909, he was a boarding student at the ''Colegio de los Maristas'' (Marist School). In his last academic year (1912–13), he had to take his final exams without having taken the courses because he was expelled from the boarding school. The Premio Biblioteca Breve is a literary award given annually by the publisher Seix Barral (now part of Grupo Planeta) to an unpublished novel in the Spanish language. Its prize is €30,000 and publication of the winning work. It is delivered in February, to a work from the preceding year. History On 14 June 1958, a jury comprising literary critics Josep Maria Castellet and José María Valverde, and editors (editorial director), Juan Petit (literary director) and Carlos Barral (director of the collection), gave the inaugural award in Sitges, Barcelona. As stated by members of the jury, it was intended to encourage young writers and the renewal of Spanish literature. Premio Planeta
The Premio Planeta de Novela is a Spanish literary prize, awarded since 1952 by the Spanish publisher Grupo Planeta to an original unpublished novel written in Spanish. It is one of about 16 literary prizes given by Planeta. Financially, it is the most valuable literary award in the world for an author or book, with the winner receiving €1,000,000. It was created by José Manuel Lara Hernández in 1952 and is awarded on 15 October, St Teresa's day, Teresa being the name of Lara's wife. Since 1974 there has also been an award to the runner up, which now stands at €150,000. Criticism In recent years its credibility has been called into question, with the first prize often awarded to authors published by Planeta, and the second to less known authors.
