Rosa Mayreder
Rosa Mayreder (née Obermeyer; 30 November 1858, in Vienna – 19 January 1938, in Vienna) was an Austrian freethinker, author, painter, musician and feminist. She was the daughter of Marie and Franz Arnold Obermayer who was a wealthy restaurant operator and barkeeper. Rosa had twelve brothers and sisters and although her conservative father did not believe in the formal education of girls he allowed her to participate in the Greek and Latin lessons of one of her brothers. She also received private instruction in French, painting and the piano. Life and marriage Rosa Obermeyer was born on 30 November 1858. Her father was Franz Arnold Obermayer, who was the owner of a prosperous tavern. Accounts of Mayreder's family, social atmosphere, and insights to her personality are recorded in a series of diary entries, the first of which is dated 28 April 1873; she was fourteen at the time. Karl Mayreder
Karl Mayreder (13 June 1856 in Mauer (today a suburb of Vienna) – 9 September 1935 in Vienna) was an Austrian architect. Life and work Karl Mayreder was born the son of hotelier Leopold Mayreder and his wife Henriette Mayreder. Leopold Mayreder had taken over the famous hotel ''“ Matschakerhof”'' at number 5 in the Spiegelgasse/number 7 in the Seilergasse in the first district of Vienna from his father and ran it successfully. Karl Mayreder studied from 1872 to 1877 at the Vienna University of Technology, where he was a student of Heinrich von Ferstel and later an assistant to Carl König. As a student, he met Rosa Obermayer, who was interested in the sciences and in improving women’s status in society. They met during a regular discussion round in a restaurant. Such meetings presented the only opportunity available to Obermayer to develop herself in line with her ideals. They married in 1881. Klara Johanson
Klara Elisabeth Johanson (6 October 1875 – 8 October 1948) was a Swedish literary critic and essayist. She was unusually well educated for a woman in her city. She initially wrote for journals and newspapers before she and her partner spent five years curating the correspondence of Fredrika Bremer. She is known for introducing American writers in parallel to publishing her own books. Biography Klara Johanson was born in 1875 in Halmstad to Alexander Johanson, a milliner and furrier, and Anna Christina Johanson. She was the first woman from Halmstad to sit the upper secondary school final examinations, passing in 1894. She went on to study a Master of Arts in humanities at Uppsala University and graduated in 1897.
