La Roquette Prisons
The La Roquette Prisons (the Grande Roquette and the Petite Roquette) were prisons in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, on both sides of the . Opened in 1830, they were finally closed in 1974. Today the site of la petite Roquette is occupied by , the largest square in the 11th arrondissement. History In 1826, under Charles X, the decision was taken to build a prison for minor offenders aged 7 to 20 – the age of majority in France was then set at 21. The location is found not far from the Père-Lachaise cemetery, at 143, rue de la Roquette, on part of the grounds of the former convent of the Hospitalières de la Roquette, built in 1690 and closed during the French Revolution in 1789. It is the architect Hippolyte Lebas, creator of the Notre-Dame-de-Lorette church, who is chosen to carry out this project. Marie-Christine Coisne-Roquette (born 4 November 1956) is a French businesswoman. She serves as the chairwoman and chief executive officer of Sonepar. Early life Marie-Christine Coisne-Roquette was born on 4 November 1956. Her great, great grandfather, Henri Coisne co-founded Sonepar with Léopold Lambert in 1862; it was a textile company, and it later became a distributor of electrical equipment. Coisne-Roquette graduated from Paris Nanterre University, where she earned a degree in English and Law. Career Coisne-Roquette began her career as a lawyer in 1980, when she joined Cabinet Sonier & Associés. She became a director of Sonepar in 1983, and joined the company in 1988. Peter Roquette
Peter Roquette (born 8 October 1927) is a German mathematician working in algebraic geometry, algebra, and number theory. He was born in Königsberg. Roquette studied in Erlangen, Berlin, and Hamburg. In 1951 he defended a dissertation at the University of Hamburg under Helmut Hasse, providing a new proof of the Riemann hypothesis for algebraic function fields over a finite field (the first proof was given by André Weil in 1940). In 1951/1952 he was an assistant at the Mathematical Research Institute at Oberwolfach and from 1952 to 1954 at the University of Munich. From 1954 to 1956 he worked at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. In 1954 he was Privatdozent at Munich, and from 1956 to 1959 he worked in the same position at Hamburg. In 1959 he became an associate professor at the University of Saarbrucken and in the same year at the University of Tübingen.
