Rootfire Cooperative is an American not-for-profit record label that was created in 2016, which specializes in zero interest micro loans for bands. It is a partnership between Rootfire and Ineffable Music Group. Artists maintain 100% ownership of their music. The microloan program is also supported by merchandise and music shows. Background “Launched in the spring of 2016, Rootfire Cooperative is a partnership between Rootfire and Ineffable Music Group that offers interest-free microloans to artists.” – as featured in Forbes, Aug 22, 2017. The intention behind developing the label services program was to provide interest-free loans for the production and marketing of recorded music. Reggae
Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora. A 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals, " Do the Reggay" was the first popular song to use the word "reggae", effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience. While sometimes used in a broad sense to refer to most types of popular Jamaican dance music, the term ''reggae'' more properly denotes a particular music style that was strongly influenced by traditional mento as well as American jazz and rhythm and blues, and evolved out of the earlier genres ska and rocksteady. The Movement (reggae Band)
The Movement is an American reggae band originally formed in Columbia, South Carolina, in 2003. The two founding members, Josh Swain and Jordan Miller, then relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where they acquired a live rhythm section in the form of local Philadelphia musicians Jay Schmidt and Gary Jackson. The band has released six studio albums. Their music is commonly described as a fusion of rock, reggae, hip hop and acoustic music. Steel Pulse are a roots reggae band from the Handsworth area of Birmingham, England. They originally formed at Handsworth Wood Boys School, and were composed of David Hinds (lead vocals, guitar), Basil Gabbidon (lead guitar, vocals), and Ronald McQueen (bass); along with Basil's brother Colin briefly on drums and Mykaell Riley (vocals, percussion). Steel Pulse were the first non-Jamaican act to win the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. Nattali Rize (born Natalie Magdalena Chilcote) is an Australian-born, Jamaican-based musician, record producer and social activist. In 2003, as Natalie Pa'apa'a, on lead vocals and lead guitar, she was joined by her domestic partner, Carlo Santone, on bass guitar and percussion, to form Blue King Brown, an urban roots ensemble, in Byron Bay. She relocated to Jamaica in mid-2014, adopted her new performance name and in March 2015 collaborated with local group, Notis, to issue a single, "Rebel Love". It was followed by a nine-track extended play, ''New Era Frequency'' (7 August 2015). Rize's first solo album, ''Rebel Frequency'', was released in March 2017. The Holdup was an American band from San Jose, California. Their music incorporated elements of reggae, hip-hop, pop, and indie. History Formation (2006–2007) The Holdup formed initially when drummer Danny Flores and guitarist Tyler Scurti added vocalist Mike Garmany in the autumn of 2006. A second lineup was formed by Danny Flores (drums), Tyler Scurti (guitar), and Mike Garmany (lead vocals/guitar) in 2007 after recruiting Kyle Christensen (bass guitar). Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad is an American reggae and jam band from Rochester, New York, founded in 2001 and known for their live performances and authentic roots reggae and dub sound.
