Ronnie Peel
Ronald Robert Peel (9 August 1946 – 1 November 2020), also known professionally as Rockwell T. James, was an Australian guitarist, singer and songwriter. Biography Peel began his career in music in the early 1960s as bassist for the Port Macquarie surf band The Mystics. In 1964, Peel and Mystics' lead guitarist Dave Boyne were recruited to join The Missing Links. The band was known for its long unruly hair, and pioneered the use of audio feedback and reverse tape effects in Australia. They enjoyed moderate success in Sydney and released a single on Parlophone in March 1965. Peel left the band in June 1965. Peel next joined Sydney-based band The Pleazers. With a New Zealand recording contract and a club residency, they relocated to Auckland where they achieved a number of hit singles and a significant following. Peel left the band in late 1966. Sherbet (band)
Sherbet (aka Highway or The Sherbs) was one of the most successful Australian rock bands of the 1970s. The 'classic line-up' of Daryl Braithwaite on vocals, Tony Mitchell (musician), Tony Mitchell on bass guitar, Garth Porter on keyboards, Alan Sandow on drums, and Clive Shakespeare on guitar provided their teen-oriented pop style. In 1976 Shakespeare left and was soon replaced by Harvey James. Sherbet's biggest singles were "Summer Love (Sherbet song), Summer Love" (1975) and "Howzat" (1976), both reaching Chart-topper, number one in Australia. "Howzat" was also a top 5 hit in the United Kingdom. The band was less successful in the United States, where "Howzat" peaked at No. 61. As The Sherbs they also reached No. 61 in 1981 with "I Have the Skill". The group disbanded in 1984. Subsequent re-unions have occurred since 1998. Tony Mitchell (musician)
Tony Mitchell (born 5 September 1951 in Sydney, Australia) is a songwriter and bass guitarist who rose to fame in the 1970s with the Australian rock band Sherbet. Tony co-wrote (with Garth Porter) some of Sherbet's biggest hits, including " Howzat" and " Magazine Madonna". Howzat In 1976, someone suggested to Tony Mitchell and keyboardist Garth Porter that ''Howzat'' might make a good title for a song because some of the members of Sherbet loved cricket. Despite Mitchell not being a good cricketer, he sat down with Garth Porter at Porter's Watsons Bay home to work on the idea. Mitchell soon came up with the "doo-doo, doo-doo" bass riff, after which the first thing that came into Porter's mind was the phrase "I caught you out." Garth Porter
Garth Ivan Richard Porter (born 24 September 1948) is a New Zealand-born Australian multi-instrumental musician, songwriter and record producer. He was a member, on keyboards and backing vocals, of the pop group, Sherbet (1970–84), and co-wrote both of their number-one singles, " Summer Love" (March 1975) and "Howzat" (May 1976). Porter is a co-writer and producer for country music singer Lee Kernaghan. Biography Garth Ivan Richard Porter was born on 24 September 1948 in Hamilton. His parents were farmers in the nearby rural area. He recalled that while growing up "I learnt piano for about six months so I had a rough idea of musical notation." Kevin Nicholas Borich (born 27 October 1948, Huapai, North Island, New Zealand) is a New Zealand-born Australian guitarist and singer-songwriter. He was a founding member of The La De Das, the leader of Kevin Borich Express, and a founding member of The Party Boys, as well as a session musician for numerous acts. Borich wrote "Gonna See My Baby Tonight" for The La De Das, which became a top 10 hit in 1971 on the Australian singles chart. NOTE: Used for Australian Singles and Albums charting from 1970 until ARIA created their own charts in mid-1988. Chrissy Amphlett
Christine Joy Amphlett (; 25 October 1959 – 21 April 2013) was an Australian singer, songwriter and actress, best known as the frontwoman of the rock band Divinyls. She was notable for her brash, overtly sexual persona and subversive humour in lyrics, performances and media interviews. Amphlett, Jeremy Paul and guitarist Mark McEntee formed Divinyls in Sydney in 1980. With Amphlett and McEntee as its core members, the band underwent various lineup changes before dissolving in 1996. Alison MacCallum (born 7 April 1951), also written Alison McCallum, is an Australian rock singer from the late 1960s and 1970s. Her two studio albums are ''Fresh Water'' (March 1972) and '' Excuse Me'' (October 1975). In March 1972 she issued her most successful charting single, "Superman", which peaked at No. 12 on ''Go-Set''s National Top 40. In August that year MacCallum provided lead vocals for the Labor Party's campaign theme song, " It's Time", for the 1972 election. By the late 1970s, she had concentrated on session work and then "disappeared from public view".
