Ronnie Adams
Ronald James Adams (8 March 1916 – 12 April 2004) was a British rally driver from Belfast. Career Born into a successful business family, Ronnie Adams was educated at Rockport School in Holywood, Co Down. Adams won the 1956 Monte Carlo Rally, for Jaguar, whose team was the first to come from Ireland to do so, and was the first winner of the Circuit of Ireland rally in 1936 at the age of 20. During a 30-year motorsport career, Adams was one of the leading Ulstermen at this time, and became a Jaguar works driver following the war. Due to petrol rationing in the 1940s he turned his attention to sailing and nearly made the 1948 Great Britain Olympic team. In 1956 he and his co-drivers Frank Biggar and Derek Johnston had their most successful victory at the Monte Carlo Rally in January in a Jaguar Mark 7. Rockport School
Rockport School is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls from 2.5 years to 18 years in the British Public School tradition. It is situated in of woodland on the shore of Belfast Lough in Craigavad, near Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland, between Belfast and Bangor. History The school was founded in 1906 by Geoffrey Bing of Rossall School and Keble College, Oxford, with the original aim to "prepare boys for the Public Schools and the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth". Bing was 29 and had taught previously in St George's, Broadstairs and at St Andrew's School, Southborough, Tunbridge Wells. Rockport began with only four boys, an assistant master and a matron but quickly grew in size. The Circuit of Ireland International Rally is an annual automobile rally, which was first held in 1931 making it the third oldest rally in the world. The most recent event was held in 2016. Peter Harper (racing Driver)
Peter Charles Edward Harper (25 November 1921 – 26 August 2003) was a British racing driver best known for his rally skills, especially on snow and ice. Harper competed mostly with cars from the Rootes Group, for whom he ran a number of motor dealerships based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. Harper served with the Royal Air Force during World War II. He started rallying in 1947 and was a regular class winner in the Monte Carlo Rally. The Jaguar Mark VII is a four-door luxury car produced by Jaguar Cars of Coventry from 1951 to 1956. Launched at the 1950 British International Motor Show as the successor to the Jaguar Mark V, it was called the Mark VII because there was already a Bentley Mark VI on the market. A version of the Jaguar Mark V with the XK engine had been designated as the Mark VI, but it is thought that only two were built. In its original 1950 form the Mark VII could exceed 100 mph, and in 1952 it became the first Jaguar to be made available with an optional automatic transmission.
