Ron Shapter
Ronald William Shapter (1 July 1905 – 3 November 1977) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne, Fitzroy and Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1930s. A ruckman and forward from the Queenscliff Football Club, Shapter was 24 when he made his VFL debut in the opening round of the 1930 season, with future club great Bob Pratt also playing his first game. He spent just two seasons at South Melbourne, both under coach Paddy Scanlan, but didn't miss any of the club's first 17 games while he was at the club. After struggling to command a regular place in the team in 1931, Shapter left for Fitzroy, while South Melbourne would two years later win the premiership. He made only one appearance for Fitzroy in 1932 but cemented a spot in the lineup from round six of the 1933 season only to be on the outer again in 1934. The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football league in Australia serving as one of the second-tier regional semi-professional competitions which sit underneath the fully professional Australian Football League (AFL). The Port Melbourne Football Club, nicknamed The Borough, is an Australian rules football club based in the inner-Melbourne suburb of Port Melbourne. The club was founded in 1874 and has been competing in the Victorian Football Association/League (VFL) since 1886. Patrick James Scanlan (6 September 1896 – 1 January 1977) was an Australian rules footballer who played with and coached South Melbourne and Footscray in the Victorian Football League The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football league in Australia serving as one of the second-tier regional semi-professional competitions which sit underneath the fully professional Australian Football League (AFL). Bob Pratt
Harold Robert Pratt Sr. (31 August 1912 – 6 January 2001) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the South Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and the Coburg Football Club in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). Considered "arguably the best full-forward in the history of Australian rules", Pratt was one of the inaugural Legends inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1996. Known for spectacular diving and high-flying marks, Pratt topped South Melbourne's goalkicking for the first time in 1932 with 71 goals and for the next three seasons passed 100 goals. His total of 150 goals in 1934 was a VFL/AFL record which stood alone until Peter Hudson equalled it in 1971. Pratt also kicked ten or more goals in a game eight times, including 15 goals in a single game. His son, Bob Pratt Jr., also played for South Melbourne.
