Ron Phillips (politician)
Ronald Anthony Phillips (born 16 May 1949) is a former Australian politician, elected as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. Phillips was born in Sydney and became accountant in the dairy, printing, mining, rubber plastics and stockbroking industries. He worked for Potter Partners, a stockbroking firm, for three years before his election to Parliament. He married Ann-Marie and they had one daughter and two sons. He represented the seat of Miranda for the Liberal Party from 1984 to 1999. He was Minister for Health Services Management from June 1991 until June 1992 and then Minister for Health until the defeat of the Fahey government in March 1995. He was then Deputy Leader of the Opposition until he lost his seat in 1999. John Hannaford
John Planta Hannaford (born 21 January 1949) is a former Australian politician. Born in Goulburn, the son of William Henry Planta and Amy Frances Hannaford, he became a lawyer, having studied at the Australian National University in Canberra. He commenced legal articles in 1971. On 6 April 1974 he married Denise Lorraine Thorburn. They have a daughter and two sons. Hannaford was a member of the Liberal Party, having held many positions including Regional President, State Executive member, Chairman of State Convention and Chairman of the Constitution Standing Committee. In April 1984, he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Council. Hannaford played a leading role in the establishment of the Legislative Council's standing committee system in 1988. The Liberal Party of Australia (New South Wales Division), commonly known as the New South Wales Liberals, is the state division of the Liberal Party of Australia in New South Wales. Barry Robert O'Farrell (born 24 May 1959) is a former Australian politician who has been Australia's High Commissioner to India and non-resident Ambassador to Bhutan since May 2020. O'Farrell was the 43rd Premier of New South Wales and Minister for Western Sydney from 2011 to 2014. He was the Leader of the New South Wales Liberal Party from 2007 to 2014, and was a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1995 to 2015, representing Northcott until 1999 and representing Ku-ring-gai on the Upper North Shore of Sydney from 1999 to 2015. There is also a Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council. The leader acts as the public face of the opposition, leading the opposition on the floor of parliament. They act as a chief critic of the government and ultimately attempt to portray the opposition as a feasible alternate government. Kerry Anne Chikarovski (née Bartels; 4 April 1956) is a former Australian politician who served as leader of the Liberal Party in New South Wales and Leader of the Opposition between 1998 and 2002, the first woman to hold the post. Early life and career Chikarovski was born in Sydney to Jill and former Willoughby Mayor Greg Bartels AM. In 1964, her father took up a post working at the United Nations headquarters in New York, and she, along with her mother and three sisters, also moved, living there for the next five years. It was while living in New York that Chikarovski had a brief encounter with Robert F. Kennedy, which would influence her decision to go into politics years later. Andrew John Refshauge (born on 16 January 1949) was a former Australian politician who was Deputy Premier of New South Wales from 1995 to 2005, a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly between 1983 and 2005, and a senior minister in the Carr ministry. Barry Collier (politician)
Barry Joseph Collier (born 5 December 1949) is an Australian politician. He was a Labor Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1999 to 2011 and from 2013 to 2015, representing the electorate of Miranda. Collier retired at the 2011 election, but contested and won a 2013 by-election when his successor, Liberal Graham Annesley, resigned. Collier then retired a second time at the 2015 election. The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. The upper house is the New South Wales Legislative Council. Both the Assembly and Council sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. The Assembly is presided over by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
