Ron Cerrudo
Ronald John Cerrudo (born February 4, 1945) is an American professional golfer who currently works as a club teaching professional and formerly played on the PGA Tour. Cerrudo was born in Palo Alto, California. He attended Chabot Community College and San Jose State University, and was a member of the golf team at both institutions. He was a two-time All-American at San Jose State and played on the Walker Cup team in 1967. He finished runner-up in the 1967 British Amateur, losing 2 & 1 to fellow American Bob Dickson. Cerrudo turned pro and joined the PGA Tour in 1967. He played on the PGA Tour from 1967–1979. He won two events: the 1968 Cajun Classic Open Invitational and the 1970 San Antonio Open Invitational. His best finish in a major was a T-21 at the 1969 PGA Championship. Since 1979, Cerrudo has been employed as a club teaching professional at various clubs in South Carolina. Charlie Sifford
Charles Luther Sifford (June 2, 1922 – February 3, 2015) was an American professional golfer who was the first African American to play on the PGA Tour. He won the Greater Hartford Open in 1967 and the Los Angeles Open in 1969. He also won the United Golf Association's National Negro Open six times, and the PGA Seniors' Championship in 1975. For his contributions to golf, Sifford was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2004. He was awarded the Old Tom Morris Award in 2007, the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2014, and an honorary doctorate from the University of St Andrews. Lee Trevino referred to Sifford as the "Jackie Robinson" of golf, and Tiger Woods acknowledged that Sifford paved the way for his career. This is a list of the 1967 PGA Tour Qualifying School graduates. Tournament summary The tournament was played over 144 holes at the PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida in mid-October. The field of 111 was considered to have a number of "star" amateur golfers. These included Deane Beman, Bob Murphy, Ron Cerrudo, Marty Fleckman, and Bunky Henry. In addition, the field included Lee Elder, "whom many are predicting will be the first top-ranking Negro player." A number of notable international golfers played. These included the top three golfers from Britain: Tony Jacklin, Peter Townsend, and Clive Clark. Jacklin and Townsend earned playing privileges. Burmese golfer Mya Aye tried out for the tour at the tournament. 1967 Walker Cup
The 1967 Walker Cup, the 21st Walker Cup Match, was played on 19 and 20 May 1967, at Royal St George's Golf Club, Sandwich, Kent, England. The event was won by the United States 13 to 7 with 4 matches halved. The United States took an 8 to 1 lead on the first day. Great Britain and Ireland did much better on the second day, winning the morning foursomes. Needing just two wins in the afternoon singles, the United States won four and halved another for a convincing victory. Format The format for play on Friday and Saturday was the same. There were four matches of foursomes in the morning and eight singles matches in the afternoon. In all, 24 matches were played. Each of the 24 matches was worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match was all square after the 18th hole extra holes were not played. The team with most points won the competition. 1966 Eisenhower Trophy
The 1966 Eisenhower Trophy took place October 27 to 30 at the Club de Golf Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico. It was the fifth World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 32 four-man teams. The best three scores for each round counted towards the team total. Australia won the Eisenhower Trophy for the second time, finishing two strokes ahead of the silver medalists, United States. Great Britain and Ireland finished four strokes behind the United States and took the bronze medal while South Africa finished fourth. Ronnie Shade, representing Great Britain and Ireland, was the leading individual with a score of 283, 5 under par, seven strokes better than Patrick Cros from France. Eisenhower Trophy
The Eisenhower Trophy (World Men's Amateur Team Championships) is the biennial World Amateur Team Championship for men organized by the International Golf Federation. Since the tournament was first played in 1958, it is named after Dwight D. Eisenhower, the President of the United States at the time, who was a keen amateur golfer. The equivalent competition for women is the Espirito Santo Trophy. Results The 1958 championship resulted in a tie. There was an 18-hole playoff which Australia won with a score of 222 to the United States 224. From 1958 to 2000 the teams had four players with the best three scores counting for each round. From 2002 the teams have been three players with two counting. The 2004, 2010 and 2012 championships were reduced to 54 holes because of bad weather.
