Romeoville is a station on Metra's Heritage Corridor at the intersection of 135th Street and New Avenue in Romeoville, Illinois. As of 2018, Romeoville is the 170th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 148 weekday boardings. As of April 2022, Romeoville is currently the newest station in the Metra system. As of 2022, Romeoville is served by three inbound trains in the morning and three outbound trains in the evening on weekdays only. Romeoville village trustees approved an agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation for the construction of a new Metra station on the corner of 135th Street and New Avenue on January 7, 2015. The agreement specified that the village of Romeoville would dedicate $550,000 from its Motor Fuel Tax Fund to the project. The state of Illinois would then reimburse the village through a $440,000 Congestion, Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement grant, which would cover 80 percent of the cost. Romeoville is a village in Will County, Illinois, United States. The village is located southwest of Chicago on the Des Plaines River. Per the 2020 census, the population was 39,863. It is located in the southwest suburban area of Chicago near Interstate 55 and Interstate 355. CN Joliet Subdivision
The Joliet Subdivision is a railroad subdivision of the Canadian National Railway in the Chicago metropolitan area. The 33-mile route runs from Joliet, Illinois to Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood, largely paralleling the route of the Illinois and Michigan Canal. Union Pacific has trackage rights over the route, which meets the Union Pacific Joliet Subdivision at Joliet to reach Bloomington and St. Louis. Heritage Corridor
The Heritage Corridor (HC) is a Metra commuter rail line in Chicago, Illinois, and its southwestern suburbs, terminating in Joliet, Illinois. While Metra does not refer to its lines by colors, the Heritage Corridor appears on Metra timetables as "Alton Maroon," after the Alton Railroad, which ran trains on this route. The name Heritage Corridor refers to the Illinois and Michigan Canal Heritage Corridor. Established in 1984, it runs parallel to the line. Unlike other Metra lines, the Heritage Corridor runs during weekday rush hours only in the peak direction–to Chicago in the morning and Joliet in the afternoon. The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway , often referred to as the Santa Fe or AT&SF, was one of the larger railroads in the United States. The railroad was chartered in February 1859 to serve the cities of Atchison, Kansas, Atchison and Topeka, Kansas, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. The railroad reached the Kansas–Colorado border in 1873 and Pueblo, Colorado, in 1876. To create a demand for its services, the railroad set up real estate offices and sold farmland from the land grants that it was awarded by United States Congress, Congress. Retrieved February 7, 2011 was an Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway station in the Chicago suburb of Romeoville, Illinois. The station was located near the Illinois and Michigan Canal. Freight trains still pass by the site of the old station, on the double track Southern Transcon Line. Metra had plans for a new Romeoville station on the Heritage Corridor since the early 21st Century. The station and accompanying parking would be located on the property belonging to the Citgo oil refinery between Lemont and Lockport. In May 2017, Metra went ahead with the plans when they broke ground for the new station in Romeoville. The new Romeoville station opened on February 3, 2018.
