''Romance'' is a short animated film, directed by Georges Schwizgebel and released in 2011. A co-production of the National Film Board of Canada, Radio Télévision Suisse and Schwizgebel's own Studio GDS, the film won the Genie Award for Genie Award for Best Animated Short, Best Animated Short at the 32nd Genie Awards. Georges Schwizgebel
Georges Schwizgebel (b. 1944) is a Swiss animation film director whose paint-on-glass-animated 2004 film ''L'Homme sans ombre'' (''The Man With No Shadow'') won various awards. Biography Schwizgebel was born on 28 September 1944 in Reconvilier, Canton of Berne ( Jura bernois), in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. From 1960-65 he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts et des Arts Décoratifs at Geneva. In 1970 he founded Studio GDS with Claude Luyet et Daniel Suter, where he produced and directed animated films as well as working in graphic design. From 1986 to 1995 he worked on retrospectives and exhibitions, among others, in Nuremberg, Stuttgart, Tokyo, Osaka, Paris and New York. In 2012, the artist donated some drawings on paper, paintings on cellulose (the customary technique of Schwizgebel) and pastels to the Swiss Film Archive, thus constituting the ''Georges Schwizgebel Papers''. The Locarno Film Festival is an annual film festival, held every August in Locarno, Switzerland. Genie Award
The Genie Awards were given out annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to recognize the best of Canadian cinema from 1980–2012. They succeeded the Canadian Film Awards (1949–1978; also known as the "Etrog Awards," for sculptor Sorel Etrog, who designed the statuette). Genie Award candidates were selected from submissions made by the owners of Canadian films or their representatives, based on the criteria laid out in the ''Genie Rules and Regulations'' booklet which is distributed to Academy members and industry members. Peer-group juries, assembled from volunteer members of the Academy, meet to screen the submissions and select a group of nominees. Academy members then vote on these nominations.
