Roman Glass St George Football Club is a football club based in the Bristol suburb of St George, Bristol, England. Founded in 1872, they are the oldest club in Bristol. They are currently members of the and play at Oaklands Park, South Gloucestershire. The club is affiliated to the Gloucestershire County FA. History The club was formed in 1872 and sometimes playing as just ''St George'' or as ''Bristol St George'', they were among the founder members of the original Bristol & District League (since 1895 known as the Western League) in 1892, playing in that league with the exception of 1899–1901 until 1903. During that period, the team also played in the Birmingham & District League and won the Gloucestershire FA Senior Challenge Cup on two occasions 1894 and 1895. Almondsbury () is a large village near junction 16 of the M5 motorway, in South Gloucestershire, England, and a civil parish which also includes the villages of Hortham, Gaunt's Earthcott, Over, Easter Compton, Compton Greenfield, Hallen and Berwick. Governance Almondsbury is in the South Gloucestershire unitary authority area. The electoral ward of Almondsbury covers the same area as the civil parish, stretching from Gaunt's Earthcott east of the M5 motorway south west to Hallen on the boundary with Bristol. The Gloucestershire County Football League is a football league in England, founded in 1968. The league is affiliated to the Gloucestershire County FA. It sits at step 7 (or level 11) of the National League System and is a feeder to Divisions One of the Hellenic League and Western League. Nick Tanner (footballer)
Nick Tanner (born 24 May 1965 in Bristol) is a former footballer who played professionally for Bristol Rovers and Liverpool. He played non-league football for Bromley Heath, Frampton Rangers and Mangotsfield United before moving to Bristol Rovers. He scored on his debut for Rovers against Bristol City in the Gloucester Cup whilst on non-contract forms. He also represented the Gloucester County FA at youth and senior level. He started his professional career as a central midfield player at Bristol Rovers under manager Bobby Gould before being signed by Liverpool in 1988, and was then converted to a central defender. He also had loan spells at Norwich City and Swindon Town before becoming a regular at Liverpool under Graeme Souness. He played 59 competitive games for the club, scoring one goal against rivals Everton on 28 December 1991 in a 1–1 draw, before retiring due to a back injury in 1994. Gloucestershire Cup was the informal name of an association football competition held under the auspices of the Gloucestershire County Football Association on 99 occasions from 1887 to 1996. The full name of the competition changed over time: originally the Gloucestershire Football Association Challenge Cup, the introduction of a Junior tournament two years later led to it being renamed the Gloucestershire Football Association Senior Challenge Cup in 1889, then after the advent of professionalism in football it became the Gloucestershire Senior Professional Cup.
