The Roman Catholic Diocese of Chiang Rai (''Dioecesis Chiangraiensis'') is in northern Thailand. It is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Bangkok. The diocese covers an area of 37,839 km2, covering four provinces: Chiang Rai, Nan, Phayao, Phrae and Ngao District of the Lampang Province. The diocese is divided into 16 parishes, having 47 priests altogether. , of the 2.684 million citizens in the area, 18,062 are members of the Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Chiang Mai (''Dioecesis Chiangmaiensis'', Thai: สังฆมณฑลเชียงใหม่) in northern Thailand is a suffragan diocese of the archdiocese of Bangkok. Bishop Francis Xavier Vira Arpondratana was appointed leader of the Diocese of Chiang Mai. The Chiang Mai Diocese is composed of four provinces in the northern region of Thailand: Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Lamphun, and Lampang (except Ngao District). The diocese covers a land area of 48,013 square kilometers with a total population of 5,709,443. As of 2014, there are 68,975 Catholics with 15,080 Catechumens. Lampang Province
Lampang ( th, ลำปาง, ; Northern Thai: ) is one of Thailand's seventy-six provinces (''changwat''), lies in upper northern Thailand. The old name of Lampang was ''Khelang Nakhon''. Geography Lampang is in the broad river valley of the Wang River, surrounded by mountains. In Mae Mo district lignite is found and mined in open pits. To the north of the province is the high Doi Luang.
