In physics, the degrees of freedom (DOF) of a mechanical system is the number of independent parameters that define its configuration or state. It is important in the analysis of systems of bodies in mechanical engineering, structural engineering, aerospace engineering, robotics, and other fields. The position of a single railcar (engine) moving along a track has one degree of freedom because the position of the car is defined by the distance along the track. Jacob Roll (17 May 1783 – 7 March 1870) was a Norwegian judge and politician. He was born in Spydeberg. He was the Chief Justice of Trondhjem Diocesan Court from 1828 to 1855. Idan Roll ( he, עִידָן רוֹל, born 27 April 1984) is an Israeli politician, model and lawyer. He is currently Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and was a member of the Knesset for Yesh Atid. Biography Roll was born in Jerusalem and moved to Mevaseret Zion as a child, attending Harel High School. He started his national service in the Israel Defense Forces in 2002, serving in the Israeli Intelligence Corps in a technology unit in central Israel, before completing an officer course and becoming cadet commander. George Roll is an American ice hockey coach. He was the head coach of the Clarkson Golden Knights from 2003 thru the end of the 2010-2011 season, leading them to their most recent conference championship and NCAA tournament appearance. Roll began his coaching career shortly after finishing his college career at Bowling Green where he was part of the 1984 National Championship team, becoming a graduate assistant for his alma mater before joining first-year coach Mark Morris's staff at Clarkson. He was a member of the 7-Eleven Cycling Team until 1990 and competed for the Motorola Cycling Team in 1991.
