Rolf Riehm
Rolf Riehm (born 15 June 1937) is a German composer who wrote stage and orchestral works as well as music for ensembles and solo instruments. He began as an oboist and music teacher and was later a professor of music theory at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main for several years. Life Born in Saarbrücken, Riehm first studied school music in Frankfurt am Main and from 1958 composition with Wolfgang Fortner in Freiburg im Breisgau. Afterwards he worked as a solo oboist, playing ''Ungebräuchliches'' at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse in 1966, for example. Riehm co-founded the Frankfurter Vereinigung für Musik in 1964. After a brief period as a school teacher, he became a lecturer at the in Cologne in 1968. Ensemble Modern
Ensemble Modern is an international ensemble dedicated to performing and promoting the music of modern composers. Formed in 1980, the group is based in Frankfurt, Germany, and made up variously of about twenty members from numerous countries. History Ensemble Modern was founded in 1980 by members of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie. From the beginning, the ensemble chose to organize itself democratically. There is no artistic director or chief conductor; instead, all projects, productions and financial matters are decided and supported by the musicians directly. Currently, the ensemble combines 19 soloists from different backgrounds: Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, India, Israel, Japan, Switzerland, and the United States. Tenor Saxophone
The tenor saxophone is a medium-sized member of the saxophone family, a group of instruments invented by Adolphe Sax in the 1840s. The tenor and the alto are the two most commonly used saxophones. The tenor is pitched in the key of B (while the alto is pitched in the key of E), and written as a transposing instrument in the treble clef, sounding an octave and a major second lower than the written pitch. Modern tenor saxophones which have a high F key have a range from A2 to E5 (concert) and are therefore pitched one octave below the soprano saxophone. People who play the tenor saxophone are known as "tenor saxophonists", "tenor sax players", or "saxophonists". Wolfgang Stryi
Wolfgang Stryi (4 March 1957 – 22 February 2005) was a German composer, bass and double bass clarinetist, tenor saxophone player and a permanent member of the Ensemble Modern. Life and career Stryi was born in Rottweil. For twenty-four years, he participated in the concerts and discography of contemporary classical music of the grassroots democracy organized Ensemble Modern. He was concerned with the balance between interpretation, improvisation and musical composition and had a lasting influence on the programme of the Ensemble. A documented conversation with Péter Eötvös from 2000 describes difficulties and practice-oriented approaches in the creation and interpretation of ensemble and orchestral works with improvisational and compositional elements. Virelai
A ''virelai'' is a form of medieval French verse used often in poetry and music. It is one of the three ''formes fixes'' (the others were the ballade and the rondeau) and was one of the most common verse forms set to music in Europe from the late thirteenth to the fifteenth centuries. One of the most famous composers of virelai is Guillaume de Machaut (c. 1300–1377), who also wrote his own verse; 33 separate compositions in the form survive by him. Other composers of virelai include Jehannot de l'Escurel, one of the earliest (d. 1304), and Guillaume Dufay (c. 1400–1474), one of the latest. By the mid-15th century, the form had become largely divorced from music, and numerous examples of this form (including the ballade and the rondeau) were written, which were either not intended to be set to music, or for which the music has not survived. Alfred Harth, now known as Alfred 23 Harth or A23H, is a German multimedia artist, band leader, multi-instrumentalist musician, and composer who creatively mixes genres. Career Harth founded a free improvisation band, Just Music (1967 to 1972), which in 1969 was recording number 1002 on the Munich based label ECM. In 1967 he opened the platform ''centrum freier cunst'' in Frankfurt/Main — a meeting point for live free music, art exhibitions, experimental poetry, action, and happening events. Heiner Goebbels (born 17 August 1952) is a German composer, conductor and professor at Justus-Liebig-University in Gießen and artistic director of the International Festival of the Arts Ruhrtriennale 2012–14. Giovanni Placido Agostino Pascoli (; 31 December 1855 – 6 April 1912) was an Italian poet, classical scholar and an emblematic figure of Italian literature in the late nineteenth century. Alongside Gabriele D'Annunzio, he was one of the greatest Italian decadent poets. Karoline Friederike Louise Maximiliane von Günderrode (11 February 1780 – 26 July 1806) was a German Romantic poet. She used the pen name Tian. Life Günderrode was born as the eldest of six children to and Louise Sophie Victorine Auguste. Her parents were distant relatives of one another.
