Rokas Zubovas
Rokas Zubovas (born 31 July 1966) is a Lithuanian pianist. While still a student at the Lithuanian Academy of Music, Zubovas won the VI Inter-Republical Čiurlionis competition, ex-aequo with Moldovan pianist Ina Chatipova. He continued his studies in Switzerland and the USA, where he was a teacher at Chicago's Saint Xavier University's Department of Music starting from 1994, a position he combined with the first stages of his international concert career. Six years later he returned to his homeland, where he was appointed a teacher at the Lithuanian Academy of Music. He is known for his dedication to the music of Mikalojus K. Čiurlionis, who was his great-grandfather. Lithuanian State Conservatory
The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in Vilnius, Lithuania, is a state-supported conservatory that trains students in music, theatre, and multimedia arts. History Composer Juozas Naujalis founded a music school in 1919 in Kaunas. This school was reorganised into the Kaunas Conservatory in 1933. In 1949 the ''Kaunas Conservatory'' and the ''Vilnius Conservatory'', founded in 1945, were merged into the ''Lithuanian State Conservatory''. The State Conservatory was renamed the ''Music Academy of Lithuania'' (LMA) in 1992, and in 2004 it became the ''Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre'' (LMTA). Saint Xavier University (or SXU) is a private Roman Catholic university in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1846 by the Sisters of Mercy, the university enrolls 3,749 students. Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis ( pl, Mikołaj Konstanty Czurlanis – ) was a Lithuanian painter, composer and writer. Čiurlionis contributed to symbolism and art nouveau, and was representative of the fin de siècle epoch. He has been considered one of the pioneers of abstract art in Europe. During his short life, he composed about 400 pieces of music and created about 300 paintings, as well as many literary works and poems. The majority of his paintings are housed in the M. K. Čiurlionis National Art Museum in Kaunas, Lithuania. His works have had a profound influence on modern Lithuanian culture.
