Rogers, Ohio
Rogers is a village in eastern Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 194 at the 2020 census. It is a part of the Salem micropolitan area and the greater Youngstown–Warren area. Located along the Little Bull Creek and the Youngstown and Southeastern Railroad, it is best known for the Rogers Flea Market & Auction, one of the largest open-air flea markets in Ohio. History Rogers had its start in the year 1883 by the building of the Pittsburgh, Lisbon and Western Railroad through the territory. It was named for its founder, T. G. Rogers. Rogers was incorporated as a village in 1895. Mount Hope College Mount Hope College was an academy in central Rogers, located on Highland Avenue. In 1894, the academy burned, but was rebuilt the same year. Brothers Asher A. Galbreath and Charles Burleigh Galbreath bought the academy in 1894. Ohio State Route 154
State Route 154 (SR 154) is a Ohio State Route that runs between Lisbon and the Pennsylvania state line in the US state of Ohio. Some of the highway is listed on the National Highway System. Most of the route is a rural two-lane highway and passes through both farmland and woodland. The highway was first signed in 1923 on a route that is now SR 517 and SR 558. SR 154 was rerouted in 1926 to its current alignment. Two section of the highway was paved in 1929, with the rest of the route was paved in 1933. Route description SR 154 heads east from its western terminus at an intersection with US 30, SR 45, SR 164, and SR 517 in downtown Lisbon. Beaver Local High School
Beaver Local High School is a public high school near East Liverpool, Ohio, United States. It is the only secondary school in the Beaver Local School District, and serves the communities of Calcutta, Lake Tomahawk, and Rogers in southeastern Columbiana County, as well as parts of surrounding Elkrun, Madison, Middleton, and St. Clair townships. Charles Burleigh Galbreath
Charles Burleigh (C. B.) Galbreath (February 25, 1858 - February 23, 1934) was a writer, historian, educator, and librarian in Ohio. He was appointed as State Librarian at the State Library of Ohio from 1896–1911 and 1915-1918. He was the Secretary and Librarian at the Ohio Archaeological and Historical Society (now known as Ohio History Connection) from 1920-1934. Early life and career Galbreath was born February 25, 1858, in Leetonia, Ohio. His parents were Edward Paxson Galbreath and Jane Minerva (Shaw) Galbreath. He attended school until the age of 13 when he was forced to leave because of the illness of his father. After two years, he returned to school and graduated from New Lisbon High School in 1879. Youngstown And Southeastern Railroad
The Youngstown and Southeastern Railroad is a short-line railroad subsidiary of Midwest & Bluegrass Rail that operates freight trains between Youngstown, Ohio and Darlington, Pennsylvania, United States. The line is owned by the 'Columbiana County Port Authority'', leased to the Eastern States Railroad, which is owned by the line's primary shipper, and contracted out to the YSRR. Freight is interchanged with CSX Transportation and the Norfolk Southern Railway at the Youngstown end. The trackage was originally owned by the Youngstown and Southern Railway , which operated from 1904 to 1993, including a period as an electric interurban passenger railway between 1907 and 1948, being the last such line in Ohio. The Youngstown–Warren–Boardman, OH–PA Metropolitan Statistical Area, typically known as the Mahoning Valley (and historically the Steel Valley), is a metropolitan area in Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania the United States, with the city of Youngstown, Ohio, at its center.
