Roger Scruton
Sir Roger Vernon Scruton (; 27 February 194412 January 2020) was an English philosopher and writer who specialised in aesthetics and political philosophy, particularly in the furtherance of traditionalist conservative views. Editor from 1982 to 2001 of ''The Salisbury Review'', a conservative political journal, Scruton wrote over 50 books on philosophy, art, music, politics, literature, culture, sexuality, and religion; he also wrote novels and two operas. His most notable publications include ''The Meaning of Conservatism'' (1980), ''Sexual Desire'' (1986), ''The Aesthetics of Music'' (1997), and ''How to Be a Conservative'' (2014). He was a regular contributor to the popular media, including ''The Times'', ''The Spectator'', and the ''New Statesman''. Scruton embraced conservatism after witnessing the May 1968 student protests in France. Buslingthorpe, Lincolnshire
Buslingthorpe is a hamlet and civil parish in the West Lindsey Non-metropolitan district, district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated half a mile east from the A46 road, A46 at Faldingworth and south-west from Market Rasen. The hamlet is approximately in area, and comprises a moat, 1 farm, St Michael's Church, Buslingthorpe, St Michael's Church (now disused, but open to the public) and approximately 20 houses. A large manor house was constructed in approximately 2010 on the land of 2 demolished houses. A writer in ''Notes and queries'' in 1932 noted that the Buslingthorpe (shared with Buslingthorpe, West Yorkshire, Buslingthorpe, Leeds and Buckfastleigh, Devon) contains 13 different letters, exactly half the alphabet, none repeated and with no hyphenation, and wondered whether that was unique. Western philosophy encompasses the philosophical thought and work of the Western world. Leo Strauss
Leo Strauss (, ; September 20, 1899 – October 18, 1973) was a German-American political philosopher who specialized in classical political philosophy. Born in Germany to Jewish parents, Strauss later emigrated from Germany to the United States. He spent much of his career as a professor of political science at the University of Chicago, where he taught several generations of students and published fifteen books. Trained in the neo-Kantian tradition with Ernst Cassirer and immersed in the work of the phenomenologists Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger, Strauss established his fame with path-breaking books on Spinoza and Hobbes, then with articles on Maimonides and Al-Farabi. In the late 1930s his research focused on the rediscovery of esoteric writing, thereby a new illumination of Plato and Aristotle, retracing their interpretation through medieval Islamic and Jewish philosophy, and encouraging the application of those ideas to contemporary political theory.
