Roger Powell (basketball)
Roger Powell Jr. (born January 15, 1983) is an American former professional basketball player and assistant coach for the Gonzaga Bulldogs men's basketball team. He played collegiately at the University of Illinois from 2001–2005, after having attended Joliet West High School, with a 2001 graduation. Powell played the forward position for his high school and in college. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in speech communications. Powell's father was a former Joliet Central High School and Illinois State player. Biography High school career Powell was a three-year starter and a four-year letter winner for Joliet Township High School. As a junior, he led the Steelmen to a 20-8 record averaging 19 points and eight rebounds. Powell helped his squad win the SICA West Conference as a junior and senior. Roger Powell (bookbinder)
Roger Powell (17 May 1896 – 16 October 1990) was an English bookbinder. Powell was born in London. He was educated at Bedales School, of which his father was co-founder. He served as a signals officer in the Royal Flying Corps in World War I and then became a poultry farmer. In 1930 he began training as a bookbinder at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London. After he completed the course he opened his own bindery, then became a partner with Sandy Cockerell in the major bindery of Cockerell & Son in Letchworth, Hertfordshire. He also taught part-time at the Central School until 1943, when he moved to the Royal College of Art, where he taught until his retirement in 1956. There he was succeeded by his best pupil Peter Waters. Powell left Cockerell & Son in 1947 and again set up his own bindery in Froxfield, Hampshire. Roger Powell (born March 14, 1949) is a musician, programmer, and magazine columnist best known for his membership with the rock band Utopia. Career Musician Powell's musical career started in the late 1960s, programming analog synthesizers for commercials. Powell was the protégé of Robert Moog (who created the Moog synthesizer), as well as Moog's competitor ARP, contributing designs and demonstrating systems. Powell played keyboards and synthesizers with the rock band Utopia, led by Todd Rundgren and featuring players Kasim Sulton and Willie Wilcox, among others, from 1974 until its disbanding in 1985, playing, writing, and singing on ten of the band's eleven albums. For Utopia's live shows, Powell created the ''Powell Probe''; the first remote, hand-held polyphonic synthesizer controller, which featured a custom-made shell used to access a complex stack of sequencers and other peripherals offstage, a device also used in a modified form by Jan Hammer. Roger Powell FRS, (born 14 June 1949) is a British-born Australian based educator and academic. He is Emeritus professor in the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Melbourne. Education Powell was educated at Durham University where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in 1970. He went on to study at the University of Oxford where he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1973 for research on mineral equilibria in the schist rock near Fort William, Scotland supervised by Stephen W. Richardson. Awards and honours Powell was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 2015. His nomination reads: Powell, along with Timothy Holland of Cambridge University developed a widely used thermodynamic database for minerals and developed the THERMOCALC software to undertake calculations on geological material.
