Roger Owen (historian)
Edward Roger John Owen (27 May 1935 – 23 December 2018) was a British historian who wrote several classic works on the history of the modern Middle East. His research interests included the economic, social and political history of the Middle East, especially Egypt, from 1800 to the present, as well as the theories of imperialism, including military occupations. Biography He read Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Magdalen College, Oxford, from 1956 to 1959, followed by a D Phil in Economic History at St. Antony's College, from 1960 to 1964. One of his close advisers was the renowned Middle East historian Albert Hourani. His thesis which was on the cotton production and the development of the economy in nineteenth-century Egypt was later published into a book. Roger Owen (rugby)
Roger Owen (13 December 1953 – 20 July 2021) was a Welsh rugby union, and professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. He played club level rugby union for Llanelli RFC and New Dock Stars RFC, as a Prop before changing codes to play rugby league at club level for St. Helens and at representative level for Wales as a . Owen joined Llanelli RFC and played 24 matches before joining New Dock Stars - a junior club in Llanelli. In 1980 after turning down an offer to change codes and join Hull F.C., Owen did accept an offer to change codes and joined St Helens in August 1980, making his first team debut against Castleford on 26 October 1980. A further 44 appearances, in which he scored four tries, followed before he was placed on the transfer list in October 1982. Roger Owen (MP)
Sir Roger Owen (1573 – 29 May 1617) was an English Member of Parliament. He was the eldest son of Thomas Owen of Condover, Shropshire and was educated at Shrewsbury School (1583) and Christ Church, Oxford (awarded B.A. 1592). He trained for the law at Lincoln's Inn (1589) and was called to the bar in 1597. In 1598 he succeeded his father, who had built Condover Hall for him, and was knighted in 1604. Offices held He was appointed a Justice of the Peace for Shropshire by 1601 to 1614, High Sheriff of Shropshire for 1603–1604 and a member of the Council in the Marches of Wales for 1602–1607. Roger Carmichael Robert Owen
Lieutenant-Colonel Roger Carmichael Robert Owen CMG OBE (1866–1941) was a British Army officer who joined the Sudan service in 1903. He was Sudan Agent in Cairo from 1905 to 1908. Owen was then appointed Governor of Mongalla Province in South Sudan from 1908 to 1918. Early life Owen was born in 1866 in Writtle, Essex, England the son of the local vicar the Reverend Loftus Owen and his wife Emma (née Kenworthy). He was educated at Rossall School, where he was a noted athlete. In August 1884 he was commissioned in 3rd Battalion, The King's Shropshire Light Infantry. In 1888 he transferred to The Oxfordshire Light Infantry. India Owen was Superintendent of Army Signalling with the Manipur Expedition of 1891, and in the same year was also with the Wuntho Expedition in Upper Burma.
