Roger Taylor (Queen Drummer)
Roger Meddows Taylor (born 26 July 1949) is an English musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and the drummer for the rock band Queen. As a drummer, Taylor was recognised early in his career for his unique sound''Rolling Stone'' – Issue 149 – 12 June 1973 and was voted the eighth-greatest drummer in classic rock music history in a listener poll conducted by Planet Rock in 2005. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 as a member of Queen. As a songwriter, Taylor composed at least one track on every Queen album, and often sang lead vocals on his own compositions. He wrote or co-wrote three UK number ones (" These Are the Days of Our Lives", "Innuendo" and " Under Pressure") and wrote a further five major hits ("Radio Ga Ga", " A Kind of Magic", " Heaven for Everyone", " Breakthru", and " The Invisible Man"). Roger Andrew Taylor (born 26 April 1960) is an English musician, best known as the drummer of the new wave band Duran Duran from their inception until 1985, and again from 2001 onwards. Duran Duran have sold over 100 million records worldwide. Taylor was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in November 2022 as a member of Duran Duran. Life and career Early life Roger Andrew Taylor was born into a modest family and was brought up in the Shard End area of Birmingham until the age of 11, and then a small suburban house in Castle Bromwich (15 Hawthorne Road). Roger Taylor was the 18th president of Knox College, a nationally ranked liberal arts college located in Galesburg, Illinois. A native of Fulton County, Illinois, Taylor is a 1959 graduate of Cuba High School. He received his bachelor's degree in English from Knox College in 1963, and then served in the United States Navy for three and one-half years, including a year in Vietnam, before entering law Northwestern University School of Law in 1968. He graduated with honors from Northwestern in 1971 and served as an editor of the law review. After law school, he practiced law at the firm of Kirkland & Ellis in Chicago, ultimately becoming partner with the international firm. Taylor joined the Knox College Board of Trustees in 1998 and served as its chair from 1999-2001. Roger Wayne Taylor (born January 5, 1958) is a former American football offensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL). Taylor was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round (75th overall) out of Oklahoma State University in the 1981 NFL Draft. Professional career Kansas City Chiefs The Kansas City Chiefs obtained Taylor in the third round of the 1981 NFL Draft as the result of a draft-day trade that sent running back Tony Reed to the Denver Broncos in exchange for the 75th pick of the 1981 NFL Draft (Roger Taylor) and a 4th round pick in the 1982 NFL Draft ( Stuart Anderson). Taylor would go on to play in 13 regular season games for the Chiefs during their 1981 season. He is Professor Emeritus of Photographic History at De Montfort University. Early life and education Roger Taylor was born on 31 October 1940 in Stockport, Cheshire, England. He attended Stockport Grammar School from 1946 to 1951 and King's School, Macclesfield, between 1951 and 1957. After leaving school, in 1957 Taylor was apprenticed to Rex Lowden, an industrial and commercial photographer in Manchester, where he was formally trained in photography, taking City & Guilds evening classes at Manchester College of Science and Technology between 1957 and 1960.
