Roger Mathey
Roger Mathey is an American theatrical director, as well as a playwright, actor, producer, and filmmaker. His plays have been staged in Los Angeles, Orange County, Bakersfield, and San Francisco in California, and also in Denver, Colorado. Plays Roger Mathey won the 2002 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Direction for the Los Angeles stage production of ''Trainspotting'', and also the 2002 LA Weekly Theater Award for Direction, also for ''Trainspotting''. Trainspotting (novel)
''Trainspotting'' is the first novel by Scottish writer Irvine Welsh, first published in 1993. It takes the form of a collection of short stories, written in either Scots, Scottish English or British English, revolving around various residents of Leith, Edinburgh who either use heroin, are friends of the core group of heroin users, or engage in destructive activities that are effectively addictions. The novel is set in the late 1980s and has been described by ''The Sunday Times'' as "the voice of punk, grown up, grown wiser and grown eloquent". The novel has since achieved a cult status and served as the basis for the film '' Trainspotting'' (1996), directed by Danny Boyle. A sequel called '' Porno'' was published in 2002. ''The Bakersfield Californian'' is a daily newspaper serving Bakersfield, California and surrounding Kern County in the state's San Joaquin Valley. History ''The Bakersfield Californian'' is the direct descendant of Kern County's first newspaper, ''The Weekly Courier'', which was first published on Aug. 18, 1866, in Havilah, California. At that time, Havilah, a small mining town about 50 miles northeast of the present site of Bakersfield, was the center of the 1864 gold rush, which brought the first major population influx to Kern County. The newspaper's name was later changed to ''The Havilah Weekly Courier''. The Bakersfield Independent Film Festival, also known as "BIFF," is a film festival held in Bakersfield, California, which showcases films made by filmmakers with a connection to Bakersfield or Kern County, California. The criteria of a connection to Bakersfield and Kern County for the purpose of BIFF is broad. Eligible films are those made by filmmakers who live in Kern County, or who once lived in Kern County, or which had film crews from Kern County, or films which were shot in Kern County. Hollywood Fringe Festival
The Hollywood Fringe Festival is an annual fringe theatre festival in Hollywood, California. Most indoor venues for the festival are in and around Hollywood Theatre Row, a stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles. Founder Ben Hill started trying to organize a local fringe festival not long after he moved to Los Angeles from Iowa City in 2007. He and other organizers launched the first Hollywood Fringe Festival in the summer of 2010. That year, there were 130 shows in the festival. The shows are not curated (selected based on merit). To perform, one must pay a registration fee and be ready with a concept and the means to produce it. The festival organizers market the event and provide some support, but the theatre companies must find their own venues and market their own shows.
