Roger Hirst
Roger Charles Hirst (born July 1960) is an English politician, the current Essex Police and Crime Commissioner, Police, Fire, and Crime Commissioner for Essex, representing the Conservative Party (UK), Conservative Party. He was 2016 England and Wales police and crime commissioner elections, elected to the post on 5 May 2016, succeeding the previous incumbent, Nick Alston. He was re-elected in 2021. Mr Hirst was a Cabinet Member for Essex County Council, and Deputy Leader of Brentwood Borough Council ("BBC"), until he stood down to focus on the PCC campaign. He was first elected as a BBC councillor for the ward of Hutton South in an Brentwood Borough Council elections, 2009 by election. Nick Alston
Nicholas Kenneth Alston (born 2 September 1952) is a British former Conservative Essex Police and Crime Commissioner. Alston was the first person to hold the post and was elected on 15 November 2012. The turn-out in Essex for the 2012 PCC election was 12.8%. Biography Alston was born on 2 September 1952 in Harwich. His father, Kenneth Alston, served in the Police Force for 37 years eventually rising to the rank of Deputy Chief Constable of Essex Police before retiring in 1971. Nick Alston attended King Edward VI Grammar School in Chelmsford, before transferring to Queens' College, Cambridge to read Natural Sciences in the same year as his father retired. Alston was commissioned as an officer in the Royal Navy and then served for 30 years in the Civil Service. Elections of police and crime commissioners in England and Wales were held on 5 May 2016. The elections were for 40 of the 43 territorial police forces in England and Wales using the supplementary vote system; the two police forces of Greater London are not involved (the elected Mayor of London is classed as the police and crime commissioner for the Metropolitan Police District, while the Court of Common Council fulfils the role for the City of London Police). There was no election for the Greater Manchester Police as the role of police and crime commissioner was due to be abolished in 2017 and replaced with the directly elected Mayor of Greater Manchester.
