Les Andelys (; Norman: ''Les Aundelys'') is a commune in the northern French department of Eure, in Normandy. Geography It lies on the Seine, about northeast of Évreux. The commune is divided into two parts, Grand-Andely (located about from the Siene) and Petit-Andely (situated on the right bank of the Seine). History Grand Andely, founded, according to tradition, in the 6th century, has a church (13th, 14th and 15th centuries) parts of which are of fine late Gothic and Renaissance architecture. The works of art in the interior include beautiful stained glass of the latter period. Patrick Henry Affair
Patrick Henry (31 March 1953 – 3 December 2017) was a French criminal and cause célèbre and the subject of public and judicial controversy. He was convicted of the kidnapping and murder of the eight-year-old Philippe Bertrand in January 1976. Trial and sentencing Henry's trial began on 18 January 1977, and he was defended by Robert Bocquillon and Robert Badinter. A contentious issue in the trial was the validity of capital punishment in France; Badinter, a fervent supporter of its abolition, ultimately convinced the jury not to execute his client. The case is said to have had an influence in leading to the abolition of the death penalty in France in 1981. Henry was instead sentenced to life imprisonment and was paroled in 2001; however, he returned to prison two years later after being caught trying to smuggle drugs into France. Troyes () is a commune and the capital of the department of Aube in the Grand Est region of north-central France. It is located on the Seine river about south-east of Paris. Count Ladislas de Hoyos (''Ladislaus Alfons Konstantin Heinrich Johannes de Hoyos''; ) born into the Austro-Hungarian Counts de Hoyos family (27 March 1939 – 8 December 2011) was a French TV journalist and politician.
