Roger Denzer
Roger "Peaceful Valley" Denzer (October 5, 1871 – September 18, 1949) was a pitcher in Major League Baseball. He played for the Chicago Colts and New York Giants around the turn of the 20th century. Denzer received his nickname from the play ''Peaceful Valley'' because he resembled one of its actors, Sol Smith Russell. Biography Denzer was born in Le Sueur, Minnesota, in 1871. He started his professional career with the St. Paul Apostles in 1895, as an outfielder. The following season, he converted to pitching and led the Western League with 200 strikeouts. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. Belle Plaine is a city in Scott County, Minnesota, United States, about 40 minutes southwest of Minneapolis. The population was 7,395 at the 2020 census. History Minnesota Territorial Supreme Court Judge Andrew G. Chatfield selected the townsite of Belle Plaine in 1853 while traveling from Mendota to Traverse des Sioux to hold court, as it was a halfway marker on his usual path of travel. The Louisville Colonels were a Minor League Baseball team that played in Louisville, Kentucky, from 1901 to 1962 and 1968 to 1972.
